Malt 379
Be careful what you sign up for.. (Graphic!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aclS1pGHp8o I'm already a registered donor. They can take whatever they like apart from my heart & eyes (corneas). It's a bit strange though, my specialists are talking about the possibility of me having donated knee cartilage at some point in the future. It's not something I really want to wish for if it comes about though..

rob190364 2,594
I know it's selfish but I don't like the idea at all....there's just something about it that freaks me out to be honest. Which is highly hypocritical cos if I needed a transplant I'd have one without a moments thought!

Which is highly hypocritical cos if I needed a transplant I'd have one without a moments thought! Many people feel the same way rob, so no problem at all. It is an odd thing and some people cannot rationalise it. I'm the other way around. I don't see a problem leaving my organs for somebody else, but I don't like the idea of somebody else's organ inside me. But like you say, if it comes to it - i'll take whatever they offer
graham4877 1,181
I would be more than happy to do it if i had a say who got my body parts i would not like me liver to go to some piss head whos had one before and i'm there second donater! now if i could help some young kid or someone who needed them i would do it 100000000% so untill they put a choice option on then i wont be donating

Whats worse; saving the guilty or condemning the innocent?
rob190364 2,594
I've got a few reasons why I've not done it yet....and I'll openly admit that most of them are hypocritical. For example, I think it's interfering with nature a little bit too much, but it could be argued that any sort of medication is interfering with nature and yet I don't have a problem with that, and like I say I wouldn't have a problem taking an organ (so to speak!!!! )........I just need to get my head around it a bit more I think. And I don't agree with that comment about condemning the innocent....when someone gets a disease or has organ failure, it's nature that's condemning them, not people who don't donate organs. But I see what you're saying.

But I see what you're saying. I understand what you're saying and it's your decision and you should'nt feel guilty whatever you choose. i just thought the argument of possibly saving a paedo was a poor argument. "when someone gets a disease or has organ failure, it's nature that's condemning them, not people who don't donate organs. But I see what you're saying." Equally when a organ is used to save a paedo it's the surgeon/system that saved them not the corpse the donor organ came from. My statement still holds though. When you donate your organs after death they may be used to save the guilty and if you choose not to you may have condemned an innocent to death. Thats a fact. Perhaps our definitions of 'condemned' differ.
scothunter 12,609
id hate to think any of my organs went to save someone i dont like, until the doner has more choice to who they go to.i wont be involved in it.
