JonathanKent 16
I had the same issue with my semi auto, I took it back to the gunshop to complain. I am fastidious about keeping my guns clean. The owner stripped the gun and wiped off my carefully applied gun oil from the action, gave it a spray of Parker Hales 009 bore solvent to get rid of the oil and put the gun back together. I took it out to his field and put 100 rounds through it without a blockage. I have probably put a couple of thousand of rounds through it since just cleaning it after every use with bore solvent and wipe off all the residue so its dry. It has never jammed since I changed the cleaning regime to the above. I hope that helps ATB Jonno Quote Link to post

fox_hunter 1
I've got the EXACT same problem with my browning maxus, had it 7 months. What shall I do to fix it !? Quote Link to post
maxusman1973 3
Went out yesterday shot 100's of shells no prob at all ,came home did full strip down to clean it again.Don't want to talk to you like your green as grass, but this is what i do and it's worked last twice!Barrel off,gas system off then pull piston off end(pull hard)!clean with cloth and oil.Remove bolt action strip it apart(it'll fall to bits anyway) clean with WD40 and kitchen towel, remove trigger group(just two pins holding it)wipe clean then flush with WD40 then blow or shake off excess.NOW THIS BIT IS'NT IN BOOK!On magazine part(where piston slides) i always get a very burnt bit that is hard to get off,i use bore cleaner off rifle(brings it off straight away)BUT clean it off well cos i don't know if it will react with o ring! Then i gave all bolt and moving bits a quick spray with WD40 and built back up!Hope this helps, let me know. It's not recommended by anyone, just what has worked for me last twice.Nowt worse than swinging through and your £1000 gun not firing! fox_hunter 1
Yeaa I know. Especially If firing at a Fox ! Seems complicated. Is it easy to put back together. How do u get that burnt bit of the gas bit Quote Link to post
maxusman1973 3
Easy really, can't go wrong!!!! just don't take trigger group to bits when you have it out. That burnt bit on the magazine is a bitch!,but i use bore solvent(it's what i use to clean rifle bore)comes in a little bottle.I just put a bit on a kitchen towel and work it into burnt bit, then wipe it all off.If you don't get burnt bit off you'll notice it sticks when you slide it back and forth by hand. The stripping down part is in owners manual. dave1372 83
.....I might try your advice on my Webley & Scott 810f, as it turned to shit in terms of cycling cartridges and I just stopped using it and treated it as a guests gun' and went back to using my beretta 686 o/u instead. If it is a common problem with the maxus you should youtube how you solved it and that would help a lot of others in your situation. Quote Link to post

I too get this burnt mark on my Winchester SX3. The stuff i use to remove it is Brasso. Just follow the instructions on the tin and the stain comes completely off. Once you've cleaned the stain off though i would strongly reccommend that you lightly oil the magazine tube , because the Brasso will take off any existing lubrication from the tube. For this and all other lubrications i use Napier Gun Cleaner and Lubricant . http://www.avalon-gu...info_47477.html . And Personally , where WD40 is concerned , i wouldn't let it anywhere near my guns as it is known to attract dirt & dust , but each to their own i suppose , Regards , John Edited July 31, 2011 by mjr88 Quote Link to post
maxusman1973 3
Like i said in other posts i was so sick of gun misfiring i could of chucked it in hedgeback!i If you know a better oil that is'nt sticky i'll try it! I use napier on 687 just thought it was a bit sticky, used to oil it with that but got misfire problem. When your as p@##ed off as i was, you'll try anything! Quote Link to post
JonathanKent 16
Like I said above, don't oil it! Use bore cleaner, I use Parker Hales 009 then wipe of the residual leave it dry. The bore solvent blocks moisture too and doesn't attract dirt dust or powder residue. Try it, it works! ATB Jonno Quote Link to post
