You do not need to have a reg on a Scorpion or an Ultra, just top up the air tank after 40 shots to keep on the top of the power curve! Simple. Every 4 mags you fire, top up. Cracking advice from a well respected gunsmith that (one who specialises in air rifles and makes silencers)... Scorpion is a lot easier than the Ultra hokey cokey reload then cock firing sequence, accurate little gun as well!

Reg is regulator, basically it takes air at high pressure and restricts the flow so you get a constant pressure for longer, it is like a divers mouthpiece regulator in SCUBA diving, one can be added to the gun, some people like them, some people think it is simply more to go wrong with a gun. Aftermarket regs are not necessarily made to very high standards and can fail, meaning the gun is useless until it is removed. The Scorpion works fine over a 40 shot string, simply top up after 40 shots and keep going. 40 shots should last most people for a days hunting though!

Yes I would recommend a Scorpion, bargains to be had on those at the moment. BSA have just relaeased the Mark 2 or Scorpion SE. Which means Mark 1 Scorpions will be cheap now. That is new prices will be reduced on the Mark 1 guns, this should have a knock on effect on the prices on the secondhand market! Do not worry about buying an unregged Scorpion, just keep it topped up to 200 bar (Mark 1 only, Mark 2 is 232 bar), it will shoot accurately!

Hi with the ultra, scorpion and 410 you really need a reg to get over the power curve which cost approx £120-140.

S410 in .22 is a deadly accurate piece of kit, had it out to 65 yards with a small AGS scope while calibrating shortly after starting with air rifles and it being my first gun.

As to the Reg suggestion for a 410, AA themselves at a game show made a rather fair statement in that "if the s410, 510, 200 .. etc.. needed a regulator... do you think they wouldn't already have one?" this holds true in that many that have fitted regulators have had caused issues because of it and soon remove them.

Expect to pay around £450 for a good second hand s410 :), lookout for the carbine version (S410k) as this is the shorter/lighter more suitable version for hunting/HFT.
