KittleRox 2,147
To be fair, even if you keep them 'pure' (what a joke) then after a few gens in captivity, they are ferrets. What do you call a tame polecat, you can handle, and take ferreting??? A ferret. wouldn,t it be a "domesticated wild polecat" And what's a ferret then mate? Cos as far as i'm aware no other animal has been added in creation of the ferret? I suppose the question is at which point are they regarded ferrets and not polecats, after one generation, two, or is it not how many generations but the degree of tameness, I,ve asked this question before and the answers are varied, a bit of a "grey area" Quote Link to post

You keep it in a hutch, can handle it and take it ferreting to bolt rabbits and it's a ferret. You see it scampering about the woods, or have it hiding and spitting at you from a cage, and it may be a wild polecat, but it's probably a feral ferret. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
The dictionary (i believe) defines a ferret as a "domesticated polecat used for driving out rabbits or rats from their burrows". So aye, domesticate it and work it and its a ferret, no ifs, no buts. Quote Link to post

Might have to go trap a poley and breed 'Wild E.U Champagnes'. . . . . make a fortune so we will. Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
It just basically says, if you have a wild poley from the U.K, you probably have an animal from a long wild line of feral ferrets with maybe a bit of poley blood in them. Quote Link to post
