Guest dances
No doubt by now many have seen that they are removing part of the badger protection act allowing them to be shot under license. Me and a good friend where discussing the act and came up with a few points. Firstly as many of you know I'm only 18 so I wasn't even born when the badger protection act came into place but I have looked into it and know that when the act came in people could still legally take badger. An example of this apparently is the bideford and barnstaple badger digging society. Now I know that even once they allow licenses to kill them they will obviously protected by the hunting with dogs act. However nearly 40 years after the original act came in to protect badgers they are going back to nye on the original act due to disese and numbers. Based on this does that mean that we could possibly see the removal of the hunting act if numbers of hare, deer and fox continue to explode. I'm sure there are nowhere near enough shooters to successfully control the population.

Sentimentality will always dictate policy over common sense when it comes to animal control.
Guest jt750
From what i hear there are more and more firearms certificates being issued in my part of the world ...And to be honest the government might have approved it but there will be many challenges on the before this proposed cull will go ahead if it does at all. And its ok people saying its going to be repealed etc etc ..but do you honestly think they'll repeal it and let us have what we had before because if you do you are so disillusioned. I believe what will happen if it is repealed they will put something more draconian into place and possibly outlaw all hunting with dogs in any shape or form

Ideation 8,216
You have to be dumb to think that. Shooting them will always be the most efficient and most 'sanitized' method.
Ideation 8,216
Since the ban, in most places, the numbers of fox and hare have dropped.

Cant agree with that mate, no matter what calibre or who's aiming the gun, a badger is not an animal that lends itself to clean shooting. Personaly i dont think this cull will ever get off the ground, theres no one with the balls to make it happen. jmo.
danw 1,748
Makes me laugh no one is going to be culling badgers the government has made the proposal so that the anti cull folks can stop it in court then the politicians can say well folks we did try but there you go tis all smoke and mirrors as always with the twats as run this country. I was referring to the earlier comment about an explosion of hares, fox and deer (which ain't gonna happen) and if that happened, would they bring back hunting with dogs? Dog vs gun on the same land - gun always wins.
sean1 13
under the new law, if a badger is shot but not killed, only wounded, would a dog be able to be used to track it???
