Jamie m 668
I don’t have a crystal ball neither can I see the past, but I am willing to bet that in the past out crossing to wild polecats has been tried at some point. People are making out that it is a new innovation, A mate of mine done it 25 years ago, crossed a trapped Welsh polecat hob with a polecat ferret Jill. The result was as has been well documented on here by people who have tried it. In the end he set them free, as they were as wild as their father. This thread was not started with the intent of knocking the eu cross. What is really boiling my p1ss, are the people who are systematically destroying a working strain of animal for their own gratification. It's phrases like, "I like them", "why cant I have a BEW if I want one", "Does it really matter if my silver mitt has Waardenburgs?" I seen an advert this week, fair play the chap was giving the kits away. The advert read Eu x silver ferret kits, where does it end? Soon it will be a micro silver BEW x Eu angora cinnamon mitt. The last thing we want is a two-tier system, as with dogs, where you have a working strain and a pet strain. Because as sure as eggs are eggs they will get crossed, and it will only be to the detriment of the humble ferret. TC Set them free should of put them in a sack with a couple of bricks then sianara amigos Quote Link to post

Coneytrappr 30
Great post. Worker to worker is the only way. Breed the best to the best and select healthy hard workers to further your line...it's dark underground and the rabbits won't care that your ferret isn't a micro EU silver/angora/rainbow/whatever. Promise. 1 Quote Link to post
fcuktheban 140
Just wondering what redtailhawks replys were to some of the questions, it looks like they've been deleted? As far as his list of hunting tools in his signature it doen't matter to me, there are plenty of people that list their dogs and they are hunting tools in my eyes. Obviously he doesn't have Lurchers. MickyB 327
theres alot of varied opinions on EU polecats, people have spent thousnads of years to make the best (not counting the recent pet trade) but if a ferret gives birth to 8 kits chances are they will all survive due to our hand, where as the wild alternative only the strongest, fittest the best will survive maybe 1 or 2 of them kits so i think if theres someone who as trapped a wild polcat/ferret and bred it for a generation or two would it not be natures way of striving to do what we are trying to do make the best! and as for money id happily pay £20 for a wild ferret/polecat and give the kits away to working homes that i didnt need for my own stock my opinion Micky Quote Link to post
