Ideation 8,216
Funny how you talk about 'working ability' as if that's all your interested in. . . . However . . . .you then equate them with money, "if you don't want them go look in the free to a good home section" as if paying top dollar for them somehow automaticlly makes them better. Also you clearly desire to impress folk as you do that daft thing where you list all your 'hunting tools' in your under sig. Now my question is. . . . HOW do they work better? I mean if you have ferrets that clean every rabbit out of any sized warren, in double quick time, no fecking about, no lying up, only killing when absolutely needed, handle like a dream, come to a whistle, are strong, fast, healthy. . . . . . . How can these 'E.U polecats' make a positive impact on your ferreting? All i can surmise is that those who get them, find they work well, 'better' than ferrets, simply because the ferrets they have had were shit. I mean i'm really looking for an answer here. HOW are they better??? Or is it just the look and the name, like "hey i'm steve irwins b*****d twin and i use wild polecats instead of ferrets cos i'm hardcore. . . . .what a ripper!" theferreter 311
I have had ferrets for over 30 years. I have euro and greyhound ferrets from working stock. Don't get jealous just because my ferrets not only work better than yours but look better too!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol. Hard core ferreters PMSL. Some of you have not seen a decent days ferreting. How many of you hard core ferreters do it at night? I ferret with nets and hawks and make my own nets etc etc etc. Bloody key board ferreters lol. I like the greyhound type but don't think they deserve a different name. I have seen litters with different sizes and shapes. When you hunt full euro ferrets how to you get them to come back to you and do you wear gloves? I doubt your ferrets look any better than mine no matter what name you give them. As for ferreting at night, I'd rather go lamping. I do lamp but rather use my hawks and rifles. The ferrets legs are too short and even my biggest hob is not fast enough lol. sure you keep greyhound ferrets they should be fast enough Quote Link to post

I know you like the 'look', and are willing to pay for it. But can you please tell me, WHY.HOW, in your opinion (from working them) that they work 'better'? Thankyou for the kind offer, i may take it up one day, but at the moment i have 6 'normal' ferrets, and have just bred a litter of 5, of which i have kept four, so i have my hands full this season, and my team have yet to let me down yet. Jamie m 668
How many of you hard core ferreters do it at night? Mate, if you can give me one good reason why you would want to ferret at night i'll give it a go. Richard becuse you can do places you cant do in the day at night on big parkland, had some good scores But for me ferreting has always been a "cold winters morning" activity and besides, i worry enough about losing the little buggers in the day, nevermind in pitch black. Also how do you know if a rabbit has hit a net?. Richard You go on a full moon rich on a clear night Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
I don’t have a crystal ball neither can I see the past, but I am willing to bet that in the past out crossing to wild polecats has been tried at some point. People are making out that it is a new innovation, A mate of mine done it 25 years ago, crossed a trapped Welsh polecat hob with a polecat ferret Jill. The result was as has been well documented on here by people who have tried it. In the end he set them free, as they were as wild as their father. This thread was not started with the intent of knocking the eu cross. What is really boiling my p1ss, are the people who are systematically destroying a working strain of animal for their own gratification. It's phrases like, "I like them", "why cant I have a BEW if I want one", "Does it really matter if my silver mitt has Waardenburgs?" I seen an advert this week, fair play the chap was giving the kits away. The advert read Eu x silver ferret kits, where does it end? Soon it will be a micro silver BEW x Eu angora cinnamon mitt. The last thing we want is a two-tier system, as with dogs, where you have a working strain and a pet strain. Because as sure as eggs are eggs they will get crossed, and it will only be to the detriment of the humble ferret. TC 4 Quote Link to post
