What the hell is going on?

Recommended Posts

I have had ferrets for over 30 years. I have euro and greyhound ferrets from working stock. Don't get jealous just because my ferrets not only work better than yours but look better too!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol. Hard core ferreters PMSL. Some of you have not seen a decent days ferreting. How many of you hard core ferreters do it at night? I ferret with nets and hawks and make my own nets etc etc etc. Bloody key board ferreters lol.

I like the greyhound type but don't think they deserve a different name. I have seen litters with different sizes and shapes. When you hunt full euro ferrets how to you get them to come back to you and do you wear gloves? I doubt your ferrets look any better than mine no matter what name you give them. As for ferreting at night, I'd rather go lamping.

A ferret is a ferret, no problems with that!   Some work better than others. Thats true!   Ferrets have been worked for the last 2,000 years. Fact!   Now all of a sudden there are people who ar

I don’t have a crystal ball neither can I see the past, but I am willing to bet that in the past out crossing to wild polecats has been tried at some point. People are making out that it is a new inno

And how many of these 'eu polecats' do we ever see posted about on a days ferreting in winter?   None.   But they all come out the wood work come breeding and selling time.

Mate, if you can give me one good reason why you would want to ferret at night i'll give it a go.

I like this thread, a lot of good comments. I'll admit i dont get out as much as anyone here but this EU polecate nonsence should stop. The way i see it is like, refining the finest grade fuel and them dumping a load of crude oil back into the mix.

I do lamp but rather use my hawks and rifles. The ferrets legs are too short and even my biggest hob is not fast enough lol.

But for me ferreting has always been a "cold winters morning" activity and besides, i worry enough about losing the little buggers in the day, nevermind in pitch black. Also how do you know if a rabbit has hit a net?.

Tomany people are going on about the euro polecats that don't want them. Well stop going on. It is simple - if you want them and willing to pay the price then go ahead. If you don't then carry on looking in the free to good home section

It is suprising how well you can see at night. I set the nets right so don't miss many, also use long net. You can see quiet well and just keep checking the nets. It's not as easy as day time. I also use White ferrets and not polecats at night.

I'm sure you use a lighter coloured net. What about putting a small bell on the nets?

There's a saying for this and it's "a fool and his money are easily parted". I'll be honest with you, i think its just a gimmick to fool people who want to be different. Why go through all the heart throb of owning whats basically a wild animal, when you can own a tame ferret that looks identical? Is it just so you can say i own an EU polecat? thats the only reason i can find. I dont think you'll find a better worker than a bog standard ferret thats been bred from working parents. Im not saying nobody should own one because thats just like saying dont buy a porshe when you can have a ford for half the price but their just not for me.

Never needed to. Try to keep noise to a minimum. I use red or yellow spun poly nets.

Good point, but i'll stick to the air rifle and lamp at night and keep the ferrets for a winters morning.
