scotty3968 0
alright all went out for a quick walk with my lurcher dog and pup tonight, the older dog was roaming free and the pup on a lead although i have no problem with recall ,,,, i heard a bit of a scuffle and switced my small torch on and the big un was chasing a bunny which he caught,,,not thinking i let go of the pup to see what he would do (4 months old very silly i know) he went straight to the older dog which was on his way back with tha rabbit and took it out of his mouth and proceeded to tare chunks out of it with his pin teeth... he then decided to have a trot around with it in his mouth ignoring me but staying close by,,,ive been trying hard with his retrieving and he was doing ok,, i know he`s way way to young to for working as he is still a kid and needs another 10 months give or take training,,does this mean he is going to be hard mouthed or just a bit exited cheers scotty Quote Link to post

I dont think you should read too much into his first taste of a rabbit. What breed is he anyway? Quote Link to post

Blaze 49
Scotty Just a tip out of experiance....Dont slip the pup whilst your elder dog is retrieving....i have seen a bitch ruined for retrieving by doing the same thing.....once she had caught a rabbit she wouldnt retrieve it to her owner whist the other dog was on the slip...had it in her head that on her approach the other dog would steal her prize! Kane 2
If he is intended as a mainly fox dog wouldnt worry to much about retreiving etc,jmo Quote Link to post
