here we go again lol .....nice bit of land there buddy good luck with whatever you have permission to shoot looking forward to your next post     atb gary

as an ex lurcher man i always believed a hare should only be killed by a single dog and not a bullet and before anyones says owt i took great pleasure out of seeing my dogs chase a hare WITHOUT cat

in some countrys they race snails for sport. . . . .       .atb. .ste.

Why wouldnt you shoot a hare? and why not in july? have i done something wrong?

Season - they breed through til september.

I'll also offer any guidance you want - I've been airgun hunting all my adult life, and now into rimfires and shotguns too.

You are welcome to join me on my permissions and I'm happy to show you the full works -marksmanship, fieldcraft, cleaning shot quarry, skinning, butchery and cookery.

It may speed up your learning curve (I had to work everything out for myself when I was younger and it took time!).

Good first post though - well done on embarking on a fabulous, productive hobby :drinks::yahoo:

welcome to the forum mate!

As long as you have permission to be on the land and bide by the laws of the general licence then taking the odd Hare for the pot is fine in my eyes, as long as theyre not shot at night ;)

Good luck on your future escapades and look forward to reading the write-ups

that would be amazing! but i bet you live nowhere near me?? i think just being able to find the rabbits would be a good start :D but yeah ill give it a little while then ill see about going about and getting permission else where as in a month, there is a guy that buys a lisence of some sort from my friend, and he is the only one who can shoot there for about a year or so, he has a shotgun and air rifle.

so will have to move else where to get some permission and hopefully in the end, some dinner :D

Hi Bradley - pm sent.

I'm about 15 miles away from Npton down the B526 - Not a long way for a days shooting etc.

It sounds like your friend sells shooting rights, which is not really the done thing for rabbits, but is getting more common for other vermin such as woodpigeon.

My offer stands firm  So if you want to crank up your motorbike and head this way let me know when you are free.

Cheers

Speaking of hares, I was at a clayflush at Sywell on wednesday gone (a truly storming evening - including some reactive/exploding clays) and there was a leveret feeding right in the middle of where bits of clay were raining down. Barrages of gun fire from the clay flush teams, explosions going on and it just sat there amongst it all calmy feeding. The daft young hare only left when a bit of clay landed almost directly on it.

I guess they just know they are safe at Sywell, as are the rabbits and pigeons. :icon_eek:

Find the warren, get there before it is light and lay up, down wind from it and wait. Good luck but personally I don't shoot hares at all. The farmer that owns my best permission doesn't shoot them either but it is up to you. Good luck

dont know about other areas but hares seem a bit scarce around pontefract area not seen one in ages lol

Theres loads on my newest permission, think i counted 18 last time i was out, doesnt mean im going to be taking them just for the sake of it, incase thats what anybodys thinking

Hi All,

Bradley, you have had some good offers of a bit of guidence and I think you would be wise to take them up. As mentioned it will make the learning curve a lot less steep!

Regarding hares you've done nowt wrong mate. the land owner of my permission wants rid of them to keep the dog men off his land. Last year he was threatened on his own land for challenging two men running dogs through his sheep, so to be fair, I dont blame him!!

if you do manage to shoot some hares , be sure to post a pic of them with the air rifle , the dog lads on here love seeing them pics

i have a picture of it, where should i post it? ill have to get it off my phone though.

put it up in this thread , im sure they will get wind of it lol

THL is a good forum but when you put the pic up you will see it can be somewhat divided when it comes to field sports.

if you look behind the dead hares left ear you will find a tattoo'd note which reads ' for dogs only'
