9 shots......4 rabbits

how do folks....

well...me n wor kid were all set to meet at mine at midnight for a little local coney bashing on a new permission I managed to swindle last week.

It's a 2 acre paddock with a gravel trotting track incorporated round the perimeter.

Anyway, I got a text message at about 22:00hrs saying he was knackered and wasnt going but we would be going tomorrow at 15:00hrs. I was all set to have a night in then thought bugger it and went out, as I wanted to test my new Laser illuminator on the NV.

I got to the plot at about 00:10hrs with it literally being 5 mins from home it had to be worth a look.

I forgot to get a weaver mount for the illuminator so used the next best thing.....sellotape, and lkashed it to the NV, I then fastened a bit of A4 to a fencepost and checked zero.... Bang on,5 shots cloverleaf pellet on pellet at a paced 30yds. The new illuminator was crystal clear and I'm impressed so far!... That was that sorted!

I made my way to the perimeter fence with the slight northerly breeze blowing in my face, flicked on the illuminator and peered down the NV...... 3 rabbits all within zero range chasing each other & jumping about all over. I tracked one through the NV and gave a quick squeak through my lips.... they all froze to the spot and raised on their hind legs, without hesitation I dropped one with a headshot quickly followed by the one 5yds behind, the other gave it legs.... 2 in the bag within 15mins :toast:

I clambered over the fence into the paddock and scanned the field, there were about half a dozen that I could see clearly on the other side of the track, probably more hiding amongst the thistles so I made my way in their direction. The wind was still in my face adding to my favour of taking both my scent and noise away from their direction. Then came the hazard..... walking across the gravel track as quietly as possible.

To cut it short it was like a Battalion of soldiers on the march, every coney in sight disappeared. :censored:

Scanning the field again I picked up a jewel in amongst the treeline at an estimated 45yds...... I crept closer, checking it was still there through the NV. This one sensed something was up and reared up as the others did, this had to be a standing shot or I feared it would leg it, aiming at the sweet spot I squeezed the trigger sending the pellet to it's mark with a flip the rabbit lay motionless. Pacing it out it was an estimated 35yds & on collecting the rabbit I hit it in the neck just dropping short but still a clean kill. I scanned the tree and fenceline again to find a lone rabbit not even 20 yds away lay flat out...... the .22 Daystate Li soon saw it give the 1 legged salute to make the total bag 4 in just under an hour.

Not wanting to be greedy I called it a night 9 Shots.....4 rabbits, couldnt ask for more than that!

The bag....
