Pianoman strikes again (by proxy)!

Recommended Posts

Last time I went to the permission the rabbits were being a tad shy, I put it down to the weather (really strong winds which is why I had Dr Evil out), only had a couple of kits so did not bother writing it up. GThe weather round here has been so bad you needed a wet suit and a harpoon to go shooting, but the forecast today was for mainly overcast and light winds, time to put some more lead through the clone, Mini-Me...

Got dropped off at the top of the permission, walked down the track, bunnies, lots of bunnies, see a Mole, laden down, leg it time, :censored: it, :censored: rabbits, :censored: idiot. Put the bag down, got the gun set with the bipod, rangefinder ready, carry on stalking... Saw a decent sized rabbit, moved to the edge of the track, saw it sit up, so I stopped, laid down, got into the middle of the track, rabbit still eating steadily, ranged it, 50 metres. Got myself lined up, breathed out half way, fired, head shot, rolled straight over! Nice dead one...

Gun was at the bottom of the photo, rabbit was by the first straw bale!

The ex-rabbit...

Well not a lot going on but I saw a load of pigeons on the wire, walked down to way they were, of course they flew off, got myself under the bushes, waited for an hour, nothing, :censored: pigeons! Oh well, when they harvest that wheat it will be different. Decided to head back round to the rabbits. In the top paddock a kit was grazing, so I let him (it was a him as well) have it, he accepted a .177 pellet and rolled over in appreciation.

Going back down the track I stopped by the bag and ate lunch. As I moved off I saw another kit in the bottom paddock, another pellet later another one for dog food. Mooched about a bit more, got to pick up time so I de-legged the BSA (removed bipod) and eased back for an immenent pick up. Phone rang, "Sorry been delayed, see you in 20 minutes!" OK time to get the gun out again, a woman was in the bottom paddock cleaning up after Dobbin the wonder donkey, so no bunnies there. Silently (ahem) walked down the track, got to the bottom, just edged round the corner of the trees, rabbit, ranged up 60 metres! down to x4 mag, bottom of the mildots, moved out, head goes up, moved back and laid down behind the trees. Then I edged my way out, by shifting shoulder first, then legs, shuffled out like that... Rabbit still in the same position eating.

I got a good line up on it and remembered all Simon's advice on prone shooting, left elbow fimly planted, gun into shoulder, seated well, comfortable. Lined up, breathed in and out, then in, half way out, lined up and fired. Second eater down! What a result, no bipod and a downed rabbit at 60 metres. Thanks Simon, another one on you!

Unfortunately as fas as I am aware, there is no chance of getting a Super 10 like mine, you see it was brand new. It is a .177 bull barrel carbine, cost £450, A&M did the front end work and made it so we could slip a Twink on the front for under £20 (that is the work, not the Twink). The partnership works well!
