Started as an 8 year old with airgun and terriers hunting rats on local council tip, few years out of the game with being in the forces, used to wander anywhere and walk miles with car battery/motorbike battery, headlamps and the usual acid burns, started carrying battery in plastic containers with seat belt straps on back.

Done a bit, poaching, trips to Scotland, Yorkshire etc, now all legit with permission, too old and fat for running away haha, retired from lamping, travelling and work etc main reason, mainly mooch and ferret now, two days a week, my buzz comes from relaxing days out(with youth the numbers game is important) with mates, good hunting, good fun, cup of coffee etc but biggest buzz is watching the dogs hunt up, ferret etc, 59 next month, retired early and out exercising the dogs for 2 hours every day, bit of pest control, air rifle sometimes, mooch about the farms always keeps the farmers happy, and I go to shows in summer, I dont show my dogs (ugly buggers) ha, I go for crack , done my bit to help keep lurcher work and hunting. Hope to continue for many more years.

Had running dogs all my days and always will along with ferrets an air rifles, the buzz is still as strong as it was when i was about 6, infact they'll probably find me dead on someones land with a pair of lurchers and a bag of fur and feather.

Gave it up for a few years and then I had my interest rekindled by a mate, wished I hadn,t stopped, feel like I lost out on the years I could,ve been out there hunting, now I,m getting older I intend to be out there as much as I can, lifes too short to be sitting in the house doing fxckall

Haven't been into it for very long, only about 10 years, couldn't do very much until i passed my driving test but once i got on the road there was no stopping me, i will travel absloutely anywhere for a good nights lamping, there is nothing better than being out in the fields, lamp one hand, dog the other and turning that lamp on, i think i get more excited than the dog when i see something in the beam :icon_redface: even try running with the dog!! It's a way of life and i intend to carry on for as long as possible, the season could not get here any faster, i hope i get the same buzz in 30 years time as i do now

Good post mate, im only 31 but been at it since i was about 10, i still get a great buzz, the only time i question things now and again is if i have a bad day, like walking for miles upon miles for nothing which is how it can go sometimes, driving miles or loosing countless nights/days sleep fookin my body clock right up or getting hassel even if on permission, now and again i think i must be fookin mad, but then you have a good day and everything gets put into perspective again, i guess if everyday was a saturday night we'd have nothin to look forward to, so maybe the bad days make the electric run through the veins that much faster on that good day

Been at it a good few years now but much prefer hunting on permission. You can concentrate on the dogs more and hunting than looking over your shoulder all the time or going back to the car and it's been damaged ( which has been regular). Those kind of things put me off a bit but I couldn't give it up because there would always be something missing.

Don't get the buzz from ferreting, but day time running and lamping: the buzz is still there: especially lamping when you never quite know what you'll come home with: its the uncertainty, the not knowing what's around the next corner, and the deeper buzz if its bigger game: or it was, pre ban.

Been at it over 30 years, from ratting at about 10, to lamping from about 14. Don't do all I used to, who could?

Back then I walked everywhere or used public transport, for lamping it was the last bus out and first bus home, trains the same for a night over the Wirral foxing. Long days, full days too, on whatever.

Even in summer, try hitchhikeing to Llangollen, from Liverpool with a lurcher & terrier in tow... I got there! :toast:

Passed my test at 17, on a Friday, that Sunday I was digging in Shropshire (crazy days). Then came those long halls, scouring the whole country for different quarry or bigger hauls.

I do things a little different these days, i suppose thats inevitable, age does that but i'm glad i've done what I have, wouldn't change that for the world.

Things have changed over the years but 'the call of the wind' still gets me and I hope it always will.
