J Darcy 5,871
I like Remingtons. I know they aren't as 'in fashion' as some other makes, but they put the bullet where they're pointed. What more can you ask for? Quote Link to post
wireviz 8
John fashion has got nothing to do with t mate the rifle and calibre you choose should be because it suits your every need there should be no compromise when out stalking. Also it looks from this post that the Remy is a popular rifle.. Quote Link to post

Agree'd with above I am a .270 man myself and whilst it seems to be falling foul of the Metrics and becoming "out of fashion" these days compared to other cal's, for me it's my favourite calibre for all UK deer species be it hill or woodland or whatever. my 243 is for foxes and smaller deer and my age old 22lr for the small game Edited September 10, 2011 by SikaTears Quote Link to post

Crossfire 0
Hi, I use a 270 mannlicher with an ASE moderator, for the stags, its hard to beat, I also use a 243 but there really is no contest, the 270 all the way. cheers Quote Link to post
khakibob 1
G'day. I've been through the whole magnum phase over the last decade or so.No noticable benefits over the 30 06 which had never failed in previous decades. Projectile choice becomes a greater issue above 2800fps,& has proven less effective at "normal" ranges on deer (less than 200m) than the old faithfull's, fed standard ammo.(I've loaded a few magnums down to this speed for more consistent results) The 30 06 with a premium projectile for sambar, larger reds (maral,elk/wapiti & crosses),etc & a softer standard projectile for rusa, fallow & the smaller deer for hunting in 99% of situations.Great pig medicine too. My absolute favourate rifle (for putting holes in animals not paper) is a Pre 64 mod 70, or clone. Then a 98 or clone.I could never own a push feed. Scopes are leupold because they have the best eye relief. A 3x9 X 40 or similar on medium bores. (A 1.5x5 on 338 to 375.Express sights after 375.I haven't tried those new prisims on a "kicker" would love to hear how they go.Are they as good as they say for ageing eyes?) The plain Jane 270 would be my second choice for an all round deer rifle after the 30 ought. Cheers Khakibob Quote Link to post
