fellman 116
Has anyone worked them? are there any left in this country? yis fellman Quote Link to post
donnyc 1,203
Worked hundreds of them way back in the seventys eighties ..Used to do them with the old eastern counties otterhounds .No match for a decent terrier. However if you have a bayer they will chisel the dog ,whereas a hard terrier who went straight in made them holler a bit before they were finished .Good fun miss them days . Ossie 11
it was my great aunts father who was responsible for the first lot of escapees, he had a fur farm at Mulbarton in norfolk, and had a few get out, started a wild population round that area. they've supposedly been eradicated from the broads, but i'm not sure... it's a fecking HUGE expanse of water & marshes, perfect coypu territory. some bits you can't even get too... i reckon there's still got to be a few about... valerio 32
we have loads of them here in Italy, not an interesting quarry but sometimes they can give the dog some nasty bites.I've never hunted them as I live on the hills and there are no coypus here,so it's only what I've heard from friends living on the coast. AKA-BRINDLE 879
Coypus where a common sight on the broads in the late 70s most where trapped or shot cant say i know of anyone who seriously worked these over this way with dogs they inhabitated the reed beds marshes and dykes a nightmare for dogs(lost one of mine in the marshes for 3 long hours one october evening after Muntjak) last one i remember seeing alive in the wild was when out pike fishing in about 83. I have no doubt that there are none left as these things are basically bloody great big rodents and breed like bloody big rodents and you would soon know if they was still about! If anyone has pics of these being worked by dogs then post em up as i would be intersted in seeing them Quote Link to post
