Hedz, Your confusing a shite dog needing to run doubled with a good dog being able to do both. If you have a good dog which is used to running single it won't turn shite cos you sometimes double it up. As for accidents, it happens whether singled or doubled. The only time I wouldn't recommend it is on the lamp. Sorry if that's what everyone has been talking about, I thought it was daylight running.

I do belive it was on the lamp folks were talking about i run dogs in the day doubled up simply because there all of the lead and had a few knocks etc but not like i seen on a lamp and cant say about a shit dog etc because the pair i was refering to were always doubled up it wasnt until 1 died that i saw the other run single and it was poor,perhaps the dog was always shite and the other made it look good ye never know what ye got if ye run doubled all the time,and yeah i agree a dog which is run single wont run shite run doubled odd time but ye run the same dog doubled for a season or 2 then back to single and see

Probably right Hedz, can't disagree with any of that. No I wouldn't run doubled on lamp either. I know guys who do but not for me.

my dad says that we shouldnt run 2 dogs together,i ask why and he cant realy answer,He even through his shoe at me yesterday and told me to ask my mates on the hunting forums,

so here goes,

me and my mate run dogs together but we also run them on there own whats the differance??why is runing together frowned upon???

isnt it better to have a dog that will do both and not tamper with the other dog when runing as iam sure most of you some time or other have run your dogs with another dog or they escaped the slip while lamping and joined in on the chase,

 

we dont catch more runing 2 dogs together or runing 1 dog on its own but here theres not loads of rabbits and if we go out we are lucky to get 5 runs on the lamp so we run them both together to make sure both have a run,

so whats peoples oppinions on double runing and i dont agree the rabbit has less chance of escape and we never had an injury due to this either

 

doubled up on rabbits never again,in the early days i slipped my 11 month old bitch in behind my mates 7 year old dog, on his say so,they ran a bunny toward,then along a hedgerow,his big dog turned it back toward my bitch the collision of the dogs sounded like the crack of a whip,my bitch came back none the worse for wear we buried his dog that night.

I would always run single I have ran a few doubled up before but only with sensible dogs once or twice for me as few people said doubled up dogs can get lazy. plus in my opinion your not respecting your quarry if ran doubled as it reduces it's odds of survival. on the injury part I know quite a few people who run doubled all the time and never have had a problem.

i run doubled up and single handed. ive seen dogs that look very impressive when run doubled up but there single handed acheivments are not as good.

if u have 2 double your dogs up on the lamp 2 catch rabbits get rid of it simple as if it cant do it on its ownits shite.we lamped a stud farm for years one night there was 3 of us out with 3 dogs running in turns my pals beardie grey was running a rabbit and the rabbit turned back and ran straight threw us my other pals dog sliped the collar the 2 dogs coarsed the rabbit down along the fence the dog that slipped the collar bumped of the other dog pushing him into one of the upright stakes at full pelt killed instantley.[NO TEXT TALK] that runs there a good dog doubled up is thick and only asking for trouble.

look ya baw bag, you asked me where does it say RABBITS and i only pointed out on the first post the op mentioned doubling up on RABBITS, i could understand missing the point if RABBITS were mentioned a couple of pages through the topic, but RABBITS were mentioned on the very first post if that makes me a gobshite, prick and quick with my mouth then so be it. I don't think i'm the one that looks stupid though.

If only it worked that way. Sometimes one dog will stay behind another just waiting for the rabbit to turn. If it wasn't for the first dog putting in the work it wouldn't have caught. I have seen a few collisions and doubled up is not for me.
