I would like to see how the hybrids work and decide from there. I am one of many on here that believe a mixture of breeds can make a better, healthier animal. Why can we feel this way about Lurchers and not ferrets. I for one would like to see them in action. I doubt I would pay more for a ferret unless it could be a better worker than what I've seen. I have a few doubts about a lot of the folk who want/have/breed/talk about them. I would have absolutely no issue whatsoever in breeding one into my line if it was a cracking worker that could add something. I would not do so, just because the things was called a 'E.U polecat'. I also believe that most wild polecats are infact just generations old feral ferrets. I don't agree with folk trapping them to use in breeding programs to make money. 1 Quote Link to post
rob190364 2,594 Posted July 26, 2011 Report Share Posted July 26, 2011 If they do move much faster than normal ferrets that must be a pain when ferreting surely? partly because of the increased kill rate underground but also making sure you don't lose them. With a normal ferret you know that even if it popped up 30 yards away and ran at full speed in the opposite direction you could still catch them pretty easily. One of these could probably get away quite easily couldn't it? They're not that fast :laugh: Even I can catch them and I'm an old crippled has been After all, they still have little short legs just like all mustelids. As far as I'm concerned the only downside is the colour which doesn't show up as much in thick cover as a white ferret. Though with the Marklll box even that isn't a problem. And they don't stay above ground for long: all they want to do is find the next set of holes. No worries, that's why I'd quite like to see a video of one....I'll have a look on youtube to see if I can find one but I suspect there will be loads of vids labelled polecats that are just ferrets. PS. Stoats are little short legged mustelids aswell but have you seen one of them little feckers move!! Quote Link to post

scothunter 12,609 Posted July 29, 2011 Report Share Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) ive owned 2 for a few year now.hob was a demon to get handling properly,his sister was great from day one.until they get accustmed to you and thier suroundings they can be a bit skittish.once you get over these wee hurdles,they work just as good as my other poleys.i dont find they kill any more or less than the others.a tad more faster id also say.now for the question are they eu poleys.like ive said before i seriously doubt that.just a long line of breeding till they get dark ones.having said that there is defo a diffrence in mannerisims so the gene must still be around.another reason i doubt this ,is i dont believe you could get a true eu anywhere near a working ability that would suit you.more than likely after savaging your hands and spitting in your face it would dissapear down the burrow never to be seen again.leaving you walking home minus a ferret and feeling a bit sorry for yourself lol Edited July 29, 2011 by scothunter Quote Link to post

I've one of each, the ferret was bought from someone on here and has just turned 3 years old. The Eu kit is 14 weeks old in these pictures. I doubt I would pay more for a ferret unless it could be a better worker than what I've seen. i dont see the point in crossing a good working line just to try to get black ferrets because thats the only thing the breeders want £££££ black ferrets now if u want to cross a pet line back to the eu then go for it , it will take several generations and u will only end up with a working line of ferrets anyway , even if some 1 manages to stabilize a pure black breed it will still be a ferret ? theres a fine line between a decent working ferret and something thats a bit faster but may like the taste of your flesh :crazy: Quote Link to post
