The one 8,493
I've been putting fen mk 4s out in pro trapper cages using peanut butter on the plate as the attractant . But every time ive checked them the peanut butter is gone .Is this just due to the pissing rain wev'e had the last three days ? and what can be done to keep the bait on the plate ?. moxy 617
Have you taken the safety off the fenns It could be rain washing it off the plate, slugs could be another culprit. I have found rats to be able to lick a trigger plate clean without setting the trap off but never squirrels. Try what talpa has suggested or change your bait. Use monkey nuts or something harder like brazils(feckin dear though, so you been a scotsman that wont be an option ). If you thread the nuts on wire and secure them over the plate may provide more success. Quote Link to post
The one 8,493
Cheers i will try peanut butter under the trigger plate but i was worried they would reach threw the cage and eat it without entering the cage Quote Link to post

If you are in Scotland then you should be using live catch cage traps and not fenns to catch greys so that the none target native red squirrel can be released un harmed. After all that is what this squirrel trapping is all about is it not? Quote Link to post

Struggle to see a red in twenty miles from me thats why the greys are getting controlled I know that's why the greys are getting controlled. I was questioning your method? If you have the slightest incline that there are Reds in the area then you should be using cage traps. That way you get a 100% kill rate on Greys and you can release and monitor how many Reds you have in the area. Quote Link to post
The one 8,493
As i said i doubt there are red within twenty miles of me .Its a campus the place is polluted with grey's they damage they do to get food is unbelievable chewing threw all the bin covers etc . The trapping was to be done discretely out of sight as its busy just now and they wouldn't take kindly to carrying a air rifle round to dispatch them in catch alive traps .The test area was a bit the size of a living room and 11 where trapped over the weekend so how manys there going to be on 460 acres ?. The boss laughed and said stop if you hit 1000 Quote Link to post

Oildriller you get the prize i put a body gripper out in a cubby beside the fens and it got sprung as well then it caught a few mice and iv'e had no bother since even got three squirrels today Quote Link to post
ratattack 111
You need to stop setting fenns or any other kill trap for squirrels in scotland. Regardless if you think there may not be any reds nearby, the day will come and you end up with a red in a kill trap. I think its about up to a £5k fine if caught harming a red whether you intended to catch it or not. Get some cages out instead. Quote Link to post
