Eamon -- I've never judged a dog show in my life and don't expect to ever do do. Been asked, and the answer is no. The other Burns (a common name here as well as there) is involved with Patterdales and seems a nice enough guy but lives in a part of this country where nothing is found to ground -- I'm sure he used to live elsewhere. I know no more, but I dig dogs, do not breed them, do not show them, and do not trade them -- ever. Lot of crap tossed about on these boards -- more dirt tossed with a key board than with a shovel, as Chris has noticed. Lots of kids typing, and not much is accurate or useful.

Dont bother writing to EDRD or any other mag for no one will touch a thing like this , names , accusations and threats in print without any solid proof to stand up in a court of law just aint on . The old Shooting News ended up paying Bert Gripton for unproven accusations in a letter they printed many years ago. I happen to know the facts were as stated in the letter they printed but they still had to pay up and apologise to Bert and I bet there's not many dog men about today fit to clean out Bert's kennels - or the kennels of the man who accused him . There's a simple answer to all this , get the dog back from Germany whatever it takes and keep all true working stock out of the hands of Rudi Schwab , he's only in it for the fame and the money and to give himself a macho image . He is an arsehole who couldnt dig his garden . All this abuse of the Germans wont help . Ask yourself who kept their breeds true for what was intended , GSD's , Doberman , Rottweiler 's etc . The Germans . What did we Brits do ? Wreck them all , ruin their temperements and phsique and we did the same with our Terriers , look at all the working breeds we bred to destruction , only one left now , the black dog ( and chocs ) , all the rest just pets and show men .

The humans on these boards are a wonder. You are dog men you say? OK then, let's think a bit about the dog, eh? The dog in question was given away free at the start, and given away free again when it had lost all its teeth and could no longer work.

 

Now think of that -- a dog that has worked hard and given it's life for an owner and yet the dog is now deemed scrap and has no warm dry spot next to the hearth in old age and with the person who raised it? That's not a fair deal by my count. Would you want that for yourself? And yet, that's the way it is among so many people who think of the dogs as nothing more than expendable tools for their own ends. A great sadness if you ask me. As for the genes behind this dog, if it is seed worth keeping or using, the original owner had his opportunity over many years. Now the question is whether it is seed that is wanted or a pup for resale? A fair question under the circumstances.

 

And so the dog goes to Mason who finds a nice dry and warm place for the dog where it is going to be well cared for in a clean kennel in old age. What do I have to say to that? Simple. Good for the dog! An old dog deserves a dry and warm place where it is loved and respected in old age. What does anyone care if money changed hands or not (and there is no indication it did). The only whine that can be levied now is that a man who got a dog for free and then gave the dog away when it was no longer useful, claims he is owed a pup back for a dog he got for free and from a dog he gave away when it was no longer useful. As for Schwab, I do not know the man but unless you are new as Spring grass you have been to his site over time (it is a rebuild from the previous incarnation, I see) and you know he has put a shovel in the ground. He has nothing to prove to anonymous posters on these boards. I am sorry there has been confusion, but I am not sad to see the dog appreciated and in good hands in a warm dry kennel in his old age. That's a nice outcome for a dog that seems to deserve no less.
