Guest Robert
Hi, I am not a natural born hunter. In fact I am not a hunter at all, but since I got my new pup (a mini bull terrier) I am thinking about getting started. I now it's not the usual working terrier but she seems to have a very good prey drive. I live in a urban area, but I can easily get to the countryside. I was thinking about starting her on rats. The thing is that I have no experience at all. Could someone help me out? Quote Link to post
Guest whitser
just take him to where theres plenty of rats and instinct will do the rest. all terriers hate rats. jut make sure he's not too young. about 8 or 9 months old he will be able for a rat. Quote Link to post
Guest Robert
do you mean she could get killed by rats? I was also affraid of rat bites. I don't want her getting sick. Quote Link to post
martin 332
Make sure that she is always up together with her inocculations, and she should be ok.She will get bitten but treat the wounds at the end of the day.She will do the rest! There are plenty of videos/dvd's on ebay for sale that show ratting in action which would help get you started.,.............good luck, just don't start her too soon as said before! Guest Robert
Thanks I have looked for some dvds. Can a dog work alone in a hole, or do you need to have several dogs? Is the dog supposed to kill his prey in the hole, or is it the hunter's duty? I know it can sound like odd questions but I am new to the sport Quote Link to post
kurgan 5
Yor dog must be bloody tiny if it can fit in a rat hole Quote Link to post
Guest Robert
That was funny. I was talking about bigger holes of course, like fox ones for example Quote Link to post
