artic 595
Woken by the sound of various game birds I rise from my bed. The world is still asleep. Looking out towards the village green, foraging underneath the bird feeders are a wonderful pair of pheasants, carefully picking at the fallen peanuts and seeds that the blue tits have failed to digest the day before. Waggling tails beating against the aga with excitement, dogs fully stretching their long legs and backs. The sound of the land rover keys being picked up from the table sends the dogs running to the stable door. In a synchronised fashion they leap into the back of the truck whilst I turn the key and awake the beast. Nothing beats the smell and sound of a diesel engine. Through the narrow snake roads we go, I can see the ford is a little higher than usual, but this wont stop the landy. The mills are baking, I can smell each grain, bean, seed and nut as I drive pass, the dogs too give a sharp sweeping sniff. Upon our return I shall collect my daily loaf and a small box of crab apple and lemon thyme jelly cookies. We arrive at our destination, dogs out of the truck and soon get to work. I follow with anticipation, over 3 fences they leap, and down a small decline leading to a small spinney, through the cover and up and over a small picket fence, my excitement rising, "Good boys Good boys, Well done" for ignoring the obstructions in there path. What do we have here then, wow, this is what it's all about!

I got up from bed, saw some pheasants, didn't wash, chucked the dogs in the truck, drove along some bendy roads, passed the local bakery, let the dogs out of the truck and they found me some treasure.
