Ideation 8,216
I don't know about the dogs, but after a full days 'proper' ferreting, i'm fooked, and well ready for a warm cuppa and a sit down. When you are a one or two man team, the dogs really have to pull their weight. Between the physical tasks of running and hunting and the afore mentioned mental concentration, it really take it out of them. 8/9 hours in the field, repeated over and over, is graft. leegreen 2,171
I am not so shallow that I don't understand the difference in work load for lurchers , physical, mental or otherwise. What I understood about this thread "how much graft" was the word Graft and I thought that more physical than mental, although I understand the implications of the later I didn't consider mental graft as testing as physical. I mean I have seen fat dogs that could ferret day in day out. All said I take your point . Quote Link to post
WILF 46,811
yes hes doing ok but iam sick of him moaning about the dogs,he wont get out as much just walks the railway lines with his dogs and a can of special brew, ............oh dear, quality! Quote Link to post
WILF 46,811
As much as I can and I also like to have a travel about to get them on some different terrain and out of there same old, same old comfort zone.....I also like to see other good dogs work as to me that will educate you as to what type of standard you should be setting yourself. You may have something in your kennel that you think is the dogs bollocks, but take it up on the hill, on to big stubbles, out in the daytime or places it is seeing more game than you can shake a stick at and it may not be all you though it was Seems like you have been there. I have ......but some of us want to know and some of us are happy deluding ourselves Quote Link to post

If we took a fat dog ferreting i doubt it'd still be walking come afternoon. Quote Link to post
