Guest dances
if i am only catching upto 20 rabbits a night my dog will go out 7 nights the week. i give my dog the odd nights off through out the season. i will rest him after i have had decent nights out top mid 30s, 40s and 50s the amount of rest depends on how hard hes had to work for the bag. buy being worked regular they seem to pick up less injurys. i even run my dogs on frozen ground. totally agree trigger, my dogs run on what ever the games on And i thought you wasnt as thick as most cotton remember wolly the runs are only ever a minute or so mate. no harms comes to my dogs Quote Link to post
Casso 1,261
Was just wondering how much work people give the mutts? Mine get 3-4 nights a week during the season and once a week during the summer Yis Johnny its funny when i struggled to hunt years ago with no motor, trying to get a lift, shite lamp and battery that weighed as much as the dog, i lived for hunting, hated the summer, really looked forward to those cold windy nights of winter,, now its different, hunting on my doorstep, family , widowed, resposabilities ,its not my number 1 any more, life has a way of putting things in order,, still love the thrill of the chase , but feel the cold of winter now, summer is very much welcomed, walk/mooch them year round though, i think sometimes ive hunted myself out, overdosed ,dont need to prove myself or dogs to nobody perfectly happy the way things are ,if the nights right i'll be out, must be a heavy wind, moonless night, dont set nights 2/3 nights and say i must be out, if it happens it happens,, 4 Quote Link to post

British lurcher lads dont tend to keep many dogs as its hard to get the work to fully test more than two fit decent running dogs. I know its different for some here and deffinately different for you over the pond where you can work half a dozen to their fullest. If you nacker a few dogs a season you still have dogs to work, if youre average lurcherman here who really likes to test his dogs to the fullest looses or nackers a couple of dogs a season then that put his kennell at least 2 years back! You may say that being too carefull aint testing them and I agree but theres gotta be a line somewhere between. Maybe Im wrong...? Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Aye i agree, but sometimes it's jackanory time on here. Also i don't think it's 'graft' if you are walking about a field in the dark trying to find something to slip on. Quote Link to post
