joball you sound like a fecking retard, as if ratting and rabbiting with terriers is some new craze that will doom the digging dog.   I think the fecking problem is more likely to be -   The Ban.

Lads can work their dogs how the f**k they want and its none of anyone elses business!   You will find the men working and breeding proper digging dogs dont let their pups go to people who wont dig

idiots using them for ferreting dont help the working terrier

2 posts back is a load opof backward nonsense, You contradict all of it.

Why?

In my mind there are digging lines and non digging/muck about type terriers. The men that dig their terriers and keep their line dont tend to let their pups go to non digging men that wont test them. So how are we gonna loose decent lines because some people would rather do a bit of rabbiting with their terrier that wasnt even bred for digging? Who is anybody to tell another man how to work his dogs? Men that dig their dogs will look after the digging lines and men that bush/rat/rabbit shouldnt ever get hold of digging lines if the men that do have them dont get swayed by money and greed or lie about what their stock actually is.

Lines get ruined when they get into the hands of people who dont care about keeping it 100%. If someone buys a terrier from bushing parents for rabbiting and doesnt hide that fact to the breeder then hows that ruining good lines?

Tell me where my contradiction is?

I guess what Im trying to say is, dont blame the lads that want a terrier for rabbiting/ratting with, blame the men that have a responsibility to the good digging lines to keep them 100% in the hands of men that will test them.

If someone wants a terrier for rabbiting/ratting then there are plenty of non descript type terriers out there perfect for this. And whats wrong with that?

Like I said, lies and greed ruin lines. Not a lad that is honest about having a terrier just for rabbits.

You will find the men working and breeding proper digging dogs dont let their pups go to people who wont dig to them and test them so all this "if ya dont dig ya terriers ya gonna ruin the breed" is bollocks! And if you buy from stock you know f**k all about and expect the pup to be a top dog then youre asking for failure! Its bullshitters and money men that ruin lines, not lads that just want to enjoy a bit of rabbiting!

Sorry mister rabbiting man i hit a nerve there :icon_redface::laugh:

i find that from here on into the start of season proper we start too get out in cool of the evenings for a few hours check a few handy spots try and get young dogs a dig but we always have a couple of the older dogs along for the walk this along with a few straight forward digs soon gets them into a bit of shape but it takes the real work too start in ernest to get them really into the grove and no amount of walking or exercise can get a digging dog into the shape they do be in come christmas time and as buster says there heads need too be right dogs with a bit of digging already over them walked and exercised to the point of were they are like a coiled spring is going to be a messy affair fisrt time there dropped too ground but i agree with the orignal post too expect big digs out of overweight dogs that have lay up all season is a no no but then the proper dog lads will know this and not ask there dogs too try and pull of big digs at big times till they see that there ready imo
