Cueball 12
Would you think that a high numbers of terriers jacking is dew to the simple fact that most of them are just not fit enough. Lads getting well bred terriers time after time and not putting the effort in with there fitness before any digging with them is done. Its shit to see a terrier eger to go to ground and then 30 mins later only to apeer with its toung hanging from the corner of its mouth and breathing like a 60 a day smoker. Quote Link to post
fat man 4,741
Well if you got in a ring for a 12 rounder and you not fit how long would you last,2..3..rounds at most,so yes fitness has a big part in terriers coming away, then you will get the ones that want out anyway regardless wether there fit or not once they cant have it there own way. matt32 44
Sorry if this is a stupid question but how do you get a terrier fit for digging ?Do the people who keep these unfit terriers just keep them in kennels without walking? cheers matt Quote Link to post
obi2 239
I'm intrested in this subject as there's plenty on getting running dogs fit but not alot On how terriermen get there dogs ready for a hard season. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Interesting point. Never seem to hear of terrier men talking about conditioning of dogs, only ever of breeding and entering. Whereas in the lurcher, gun dog etc world conditioning for work is a big topic. Seems that many think a terrier just needs to be 'ard enuff'. Quote Link to post

.terrier man. 193
I'm intrested in this subject as there's plenty on getting running dogs fit but not alot On how terriermen get there dogs ready for a hard season. befor last season i done a lot of road work with the dogs and walking up the mountain letting them work the cover and bush them selfs stupid always plenty about for them to work, also walked them for f*****g miles looking for new earths, got them fit as f**k, you see a big difference in a fit happy dog than in one thats just left in the kennals all day. Chid 6,603
my terrier gets the same exercise as my lurchers do Quote Link to post
hunting24/7 6
Fight them against each other in a length of twelve inch drain pipe.just a joke.if you know your earths ,start with shallow digs where you'll break trough in twenty mins or a half hour and build their fitness from there like you'd do by bringing a pup to a pup hole!people seem to forget experienced older dogs can be over matched too! mighty celt 996
my terrier gets the same exercise as my lurchers do same here anytime my lurchers out for a walk terriers also come.my mate got a small russell 2 seasons ago of a guy that said she jacked twice on him.he has her in top nick now and wouldnt dream off parting with her.if u dont put the effort in to your dogs they wont put the effort in for u simple as. Born Hunter 17,809
idiots using them for ferreting dont help the working terrier Lads can work their dogs how the f**k they want and its none of anyone elses business! You will find the men working and breeding proper digging dogs dont let their pups go to people who wont dig to them and test them so all this "if ya dont dig ya terriers ya gonna ruin the breed" is bollocks! And if you buy from stock you know f**k all about and expect the pup to be a top dog then youre asking for failure! Its bullshitters and money men that ruin lines, not lads that just want to enjoy a bit of rabbiting! 2 Quote Link to post
