Slips I'm lucky enough that I'm not in the situation where I need to buy a pup but I understand what your getting at.I still wouldn't pay 500 for a pup no mater how well bred it was. There are no guarantee's with a pup, it could turn out shite. 500 quid would buy you a digging dog

and i hope ya never in this situation  as the say goes you pays ya money and ya take ya chances im sorry to say 500 wouldnt buy a diggin dog of me ive no of shamo going for more. im not money minded trust me but a honset diggin dogs can like rockin horse shit if your not round the right folk and yes iv pts well bred uns they all dont make it jmho

I reared 5 pups last year and it cost me     £30 15kg beta puppy food £70 docking and bottle of wormer from vets. £10 minced flesh 25p per lb heat lamp for 1st 2 week pennies   Thats a total o

i give pups away on aggreement they come back to me if no good or dont suit because i only ever bred for myself

IMO pups from genuine lines of good digging dogs ought to be in the thousands, but that said i'de sooner give them to decent lads to run on.

Thats why the working terrier game is the way it is,money has taken over from work.Just look at the border for instance, people ask why there are not many working borders about.Well i think its a lot to do with them been priced beyond the working mans pocket,if they were at a more reasonable price there would be more lads interested in trying them.I dont sell pups or buy pups,if i have surplus pups there given to friends that will work them, and if i need a pup i can always go back to them down the line at some stage, and i think thats the way it should be,but there's always someone out there looking to screw someone.

BB24 why dont you get to know someone thats at the diging game and ask can you come along with them come the season and that you will share the work load. Then you will see first hand what there dogs are like and who knows if they were alright lads they might offer you a pup or even better a young terrier ready for starting.Dont go rushing in buying a pup because it has a big name behind it,they usually turn out shite, better to get one from worker to worker, and a lot better if you get the chance to see them work.Good luck anyway.

fatman i think you have double standards didn you buy a pup of one of the so called big names not so long ago you come on here tellin every one dont buy of the big names and you do exactly that and if my snoop is correct its 300 a pup from the same man who has 17 pups ordered to date

£500 for a pup ?? why not £1000 or £2000 ? if you start going down that roud you invite the money men in, no matter how genuine they seemed when you sold it, and then they put it to something crap and start advertising pups from so and so's line for daft money and theres more shite going round.

totaly agree .....BUT it started about a member gettin a pup to start terrier work if he had the chance to buy a well line bred one would 500 be a sting. or does he go around the circit waste in time and money to relize that 500 was a gift to get good blood? and yes we all give em to freinds famliy and wish them well but hes not fortune anuf may be to be gifted a pup. i think the red rosset is the bigest down full to the workin terrier not money

500 quid is still a bad sting for a pup slips, there is simply no way of justifying it. There are well bred pups out there for a lot less than that

slips is just feeling the market ............he has a litter and the feel for cash whistling.gif

i would pay for a pup out of decent stuff but that still doesnt mean its going to make a worker it just betters your chances off success so 500 pound to me is a bit to much and i find that the fellas asking that type of money not them all but a few well know names are breeding off bitches that have seen little or no work because of the demand for pups theres a lot of money lost waiting on a bitch to prove her self to be worth mating :tongue2:
