feeding weaning kits

I have 9 six week old kits that are eating meat and drinking water. I've seperated them from the jill and they are doing well. I am just wondering how many rabbits I should be giving them a day to keep them well fed? I was feeding them three times a day and would like to cut it down also.

Put in a whole rabbit and see how much they put away in a day, if the rabbit disapears in less than a day, then put more in. I tend to leave my kits with food all the time, then they can have as much as they want

I've just got 2 jills which i was told were 6 weeks old. I got them given off a friend of a friend as he just wanted rid of them.

 

I've also got a 7 week old hob (which is about 3 times the size!!)

 

I'm not sure if they are 6 weeks old and just haven't been fed properly or if they are younger to be honest. What's the best thing i can feed them to try and help them put a bit of weight on and grow?

 

They are really small to be honest and i dont think they have been looked after too well, one of them is eating fine and starting to put some wight on but the other doesnt eat much and appears to be really weak :/

That's tough mate, what do you feed them now? If you think they are very young I would give them mince and wet cat food. Have you seen them drinking? Can you take some pictures of them to show us?

Your looking at it the wrong way put a rabbit in .if they eat it put another one in while there young pump the grub in this is when they need it for bone and muscle growth ,dont stint on the grub while there growing

I didn't mean cut down on the amount, just the amount of times feeding them. I figured give them more twice a day instead of smaller portions three times a day. I fed them two rabbits today and they have dry available all the time. I want the kits to be as healthy as possible

Rabbit is the best thing for your kits, just keep chucking whole rabbits in, just look into the cage from time to time to see how fast the kits get through it, if they get through it quite rapidly, then cob in another one, you will soon work out how much they need

I would put a rabbit in just asa its getting dark letting them eat all they want in the cool of the night and no flies ,check on it in the morning and if its all gone replace it and take my chances they eat most of it before the flies find and start laying eggs

they get all feedin times and how many rabbits they need in the wild do they just chuck a adult or two half growns in to them and dont be shy to miss a day just make sure ther water bred em for years and they been fine you think 35 year ago al i was told was give em bread and milk they all lived fine and worked

They've been getting premium kitten food (high in protein and fat and not too high in fibre) mixed in with ferret biscuits which im trying to get them on instead of the wet stuff. i also put meat in for them like chicken and a bit of mince and stuff once every two days. they've both been eating and drinking and stuff just one more than the other...

 

until now! the little one has picked up an appetite and started to look healthier (jumping around and climbing the cage) she is still a lot smaller but im guessing that will be from her being unwell or not weaned properly?

fed them yesterday and she was making sure she got her share of food from my greedy 9 week old ferret who's twice her size.

 

im glad she's looking well now, ill try and get some pics up and keep you all updated

i cant get my head round this getting rid of kitts at 6 or 8 week old first of all it takes 4-5 week for them to open there eyes,, there still not mooving corectly on there feet at 6 week. they should still be with the jill till at least 10 weeks .

 

do your kits a favour and put the jill back in

My kits had their eyes open at 3 weeks. I still have the kits and at 7 weeks they are climbing through tunnels and running all over the run so they are doing well. I will put the jill back in today. I just wanted to make sure she was dried up and they wouldn't try to feed off of her. I'm not in a hurry to get rid of them. I just want them to go to the right people. Thanks tomo

THEY DONT HAVE THERE EYES OPEN AT 3 WEEK,,, they CAN start to open then,, just little slits,, but your not telling me a full litter of kits had there eyes wide open at 3 weeks.

do them a skinned rabbit sadle first thing in the morning and see whats left next morning if it just a bit of bone then try two ,i cut my rabbits up in to sections for the ferrets and frezze them one or two sections a day depending i also frezze all the organs and share a few out everyday
