Still it's of intrest to most of us how you do it over there. Pretty great indeed! Here we use 3/64 and 1/16 size cable on minks, squirrels, and animals of that size. A stoat over here is a weasel (or ermine in their winter coat in the northern states...all weasels do not turn white in winter). Most trappers use a #1 longspring (foothold) to trap weasels or posibibly a killer trap such as a 110 conibear. Pretty good that someone could snare a "stoat". Although the Canadians snare Red squirrels which are close to the same size. Quote Link to post
snareman 3
right boys ive seen the wire boys on here can snare anything from a fox to a mouse but have any one ever caught a stoat or weasle. i know its a tall order but can it be done stoats are usually caught in rat snares if going under a briar or a weed , out in open runs they run far higher , even higher than a squirrel , and a squirrel runs higher than a mink along wooded streams , on saying that i,ve snared two stoats around the body in rabbit snares set at 6 1/2 inches with the big noose set on the middle of a beat , and snared a large dog mink at the same height one morning in a pegged wire , on a rabbit run in a grass field , along with the rabbits , it was clean round the neck , and wasn,t to pleased to see me , i,ve also snared stoats in 4 strand rabbit wires set on fence lines . snareman.
