Malt 379
Gotta hand it to Tesco, they certainly know how to make themselves money through innovation with regards to peoples shopping habits, even if they are an evil organisation hell bent on total world domination! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGaVFRzTTP4&feature=player_embedded

scalesntails 118
I buy all my meat and veg locally so do my supermarket shop online as the delivery charge is less than the petrol would cost to get there. My wife always checks the receipts to see if our shop would be cheaper elsewhere. Surprisingly Sainburys is actually the cheapest for us by about £12 a week but I suppose it depends on what you buy. rob190364 2,594
I hate what Tesco are doing, they are literally trying to get into absolutely everything, and it's true what Malt says, it's like they're trying to dominate the world. I heard some statistic once that 1 in every 7 pounds that's spent in the UK is spent in Tesco! .......and yet I always go to Tesco cos it's on the doorstep

No, I might start making a stand and going a bit further to ASDA or Sainsburys I think.

Blame your parents! To be honest, if you wanted to you could go to local traders, but supermarkets have made everything so cheap in comparison to local traders most people couldn't justify paying so much extra....even if it is much better quality most of the time. It would help if everyone wasn't so bloody skint!
Malt 379
The b*****ds know they've got us all by the balls now, they can fix their prices as they see fit. It's no longer cheaper to buy from the supermarkets but they've smashed most of the other smaller shops out of business.I can't stand handing so much cash over to one organisation, but it's got to the point now where they're above all competition. Our local high streets are fast becoming ghost streets full of empty shops. The local business rates are rocketing as the councils are desperately trying to wring more money out of the existing shops, and in turn they're folding too. God knows what we'll be left with in 15-20 years time.

That's the thing though pal - the supermarkets aren't cheaper these days, it's just they rely on that ingrained image to get you in through the doors. Our local butcher does a special for £18 & in that you get something like a roasting joint of beef, 2lb of sausages, 2lb of bacon, 2lb of mince, some pork chops & 1lb of liver or chicken breasts. The meat is a lot better quality too.

It would help if everyone wasn't so bloody skint! Very true but I find the high street cheaper if anything, veg is certainly cheaper from the greengrocer and the little extra you may pay at the butcher is worth it just to keep an independant trader going imho....fihmongers have all but dissapeared and the few that there are left dont turn over enough stock fast enough to have really fresh products. If you look around you can buy all the rest of the gumph needed for daily life at some good bargain prices BUT it all takes time and effort, two things that seem to be sadly lacking in this modern utopia! And I will add that a lot of 30 something women have no idea how to shop or what to look for when choosing fish, meat or veg......another by product of the supermarket generation. God knows what we'll be left with in 15-20 years time. Just 4 or 5 superstores per town probably, with no small shops whatsoever. I honestly don't know how some of these small businesses stay open in some high streets! They always seem so quiet! It's now the culture in this country....if ever I need anything I automatically think if Tesco have it and if they do 99% of the time I'll go and get it from there, mainly cos it's easy and you know you're not usually going to be paying over the odds for it. And yet they'll be small shops in the town that sell that very same thing. Another example is beer, I'll actually drive past a bargain booze to go and get beer from Tesco! The only time I'll get it from bargain booze is if I want it straight away cos then I can get it out of the fridge.
