my old mans had 2 pajeros

a swb mk 2 2.8 manual

and a mk1 2.5 lwb which hes owned for 9 years.

hes was a member of the owners club as well and his take on things is the mk1 is better on fuel due to the better diff ratio.

he reckons the 2.5 is stronger engine as well he changes oil every 3,000 miles.

he wouldnt own either the 2.8 or an auto if you gave it too him.

and hes turned down 2 grand for his lwb several times.

I had a Paj 2.8 SWB Automatic and boy was it thirsty! still to this day I have never had a motor guzzle fuel quite like this :icon_eek:.

I went for the 2.8 for a bit extra grunt plus this engine comes with a timing chain, the 2.5 is timing belt. the up side is it came with three shock adjustments from the cockpit and lots of other toys to play with, just a shame it was so thirsty.

Hi chaps, question has anyone had the 2.5 and the 2.8 pajero before to compare the two ,fuel etc.

Had both, i rated the 2.5 SWB so much that when i sold it i bought a 2.8 LWB for me and a 2.8SWB for the wife, we love em, we like the 2.8 better cos there are no timing belts as they are chain,on the 2.8, the extras are standard and the adjustable suspension is terrific. cant fault them but out of choice for fun the 2.8SWB beats all. we were returning just over 30 per gall on our 2.8 diesel

I had a short wheel base 2.5 auto about 6 years back and i loved it really comfortable on road brilliant off road..you get a lot of motor for the price but the fuel consumption sadly let's them down and that is one of the reason's i parted with mine..i once towed a caravan from the north east to south wales and it cost me £200 in diesel.. :icon_eek: ...luckly Ianb went half's on the fuel.. :D .

Hi chaps, question has anyone had the 2.5 and the 2.8 pajero before to compare the two ,fuel etc.

i used to work for a pajero/l200/delica garage breaking/repairing and re selling them weve had 1000s of them in and ive owned and drove loads and reli like them as a 4x4 pajero wise ive had the lot 2.5 lwb and swb both in manual and auto and also the 2.8 lwb and swb manual and auto and the v6 petrol in swb manual and i found the 2.5 lwb and swb is better in manual than auto but is a bit juicy but supriseingly i found my v6 was reterning about the same on fuel but much better power but my personal faverout and what i would recoment is the 2.8 manual swb is very gd also the 2.8 lwb is very gd in auto and manual but mostly have to settle with a auto lwb 2.8 coz the manual 2.8 lwb are very very hard to find i was lucky to find myn especially at the price i did and reli liked it regret selling it now tbh
