As has been said before it's all about harmonics. All are slightly different, Bullet weights, powder speeds, lenght of barrel, thickness of barrel and even floating or supported barrel's Don't be lead down the fast is best route as there is alot of Bovine waste product spoken about all things shooting, If you are getting good groups with your chosen load it is better to hit your target slowly than MISS it at speed !( i don't know what you are loading for but the front stuffers used in the American Civil War Took mens arms off) By all means experiment with your loads and lengths but you now have a load you are happy with and a bench mark to work if you are improveing or not. Reload safely ! Coldweld Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
Excellent advice frm above there, i always choose an accurate load over a fast load, but i do know some guys who spend copious ammounts of time trying to get the fast accurate load, although sometimes it does happen with luck, Guys tend to brag about speed, ie my rounds doing 4000...fps !!!! Some of these guys i've met and they couldn't hit a barn door, its like they have small cock syndrome or something....!!!!! take the time to develop the load, And once happy PRACTICE, thats the single most important thing that will tighten any group.. jamie g 17
mike you got to know when to be happy. if your getting 1/4 at 100 yards at 3500 fps or 1/2 at 100 yards at 3800 fps then I would take the 3800 fps load any day reason being 1/2 is more then enough for vermin shooting. I was speaking to Alan the guy that has the longrange shooting vids on youtube the other day. and well we all like very tiny groups he said is it really needed for normal vermin shooting ranges. even a rifle doing 1 inch groups you could head shoot a rabbit at 200 yards. we agreed if you can get the tiny groups then that is a bonus. is it really needed ? maybe not Quote Link to post
zx10mike 137
thanks guys my groups are .25 - .40 in both rifles , i asume when i hear guys talking about fast speeds they are also there accurate loads.that extra 2-300 fps makes a big difference when tapped into the balistic calculator.perhaps i wondered if i use more powder and keep the gap between the powder and bullet the same by seating further out ect i may get the good groups but a bit faster.just like to check i'm not missing anything.i am happy but if improvement can be made by learning something new,why not thanks for the help chaps.
