ftm 3,357
just go for a bed x whippet or a collie x whippet mate but most lurchers make good ferreting dogs if taken out enough Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
I'll stick a vote in for collie/grey and whippet. But in reality, just find a litter being bred out of two cracking ferreting dogs. Quote Link to post
undisputed 1,664
If its just ferreting doesn't have to be a lurcher basically all you need is a dog to Mark holes...hell if you have decent ground you don't even. Need a dog Quote Link to post

Need a dog You're right, you don't NEED a dog, but he probably wants one....and it depends how he's going to be doing it. This will be my dogs first season and I'll be using the nets as little as possible, just letting her catch the bolters. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
I don't know, after having one, you kind of feel you do. Quote Link to post
NEWKID 27,431
I definately prefer ferreting with a dog than without, if you got a dog that marks can be invaluable. Likes been said don't have to be a lurcher my jack russel marks well and is good at catching hole hoppers but lacks the speed needed to catch runners. I've got a beddy whippet whos coming on well and will catch the runners. If it's not for pest control and you don't mind missing a few theres nothing better than no nets and a running dog great to see them work like that. colliexgrey colliexwhip whip whipxbeddy it's your choice mate you get out what you put in Quote Link to post
