Lamping lurchers

Recommended Posts

9 times out of 10 we lamp from motor so its not worth the hassel stopping every field to slip dog on a rabbit, every rabbit we see lives to run another day but when walking anything over10 and thats a good night for me, if i just went local to me you will struggle to get 20 rabbits a season.

you strugel to get 5 local a night travel 60 miles to get 20 but days seem to be gone we go to scotland once a year we have had 30 to 60 a night with one dog serten placers are better than others and there beter dogs than mine would catch more then back to wales to try and find some always looking for feilds like water ship down

What sort of catch rate would ye lads expect of a lamping dog, bitch with conditions right and plenty of rabbits on the ground.I had a dhxgh bitck that could take 20 or more in a nights session, would that be good or fair or bad, dont lamp much anymore so just curious.

the buzz for me is watching my dog run, once the quarry is caught or escapes buzz over, this is a hard question to answer for reasons already stated but 20 rabbits is a good night imo

but to be honest mate rabbits don,t appeal 2 you much your allways out for the bigger which is nice if you can get 2 th places all the time ,and yes out above 10 in a night is ok haul ,but 1 i will disagree that their is rabbits on the doorstep 2 be caught, i got over 70+ rabbits over hill and tunna last season ,our rocky got 30+ most of them were round the hill ,but thats out more then once a week plus a tend 2 stay local most of the time

picking up 20 rabbits is a good nights lamping with one dog imo and a good shift carrying and cleaning with a battery on ya back, but sometimes quailty beats quanity and 5 hard won rabbits beats 15 easy 10 yrd pick ups imo

i no mate ive never lamped that hill cause ive seen some huge cracks in the ground what drop about 30 plus foot down, round warden law is a struggle to get 20 plus a season though theres more hares than rabbits round there. The past three times ive walked local over tuna me and rich has had about 10 rabbits and a few other things between the 2dogs. evry one always dances round this question,,, no rabbits round me 3 is a good night,,,, fecks sake get out find some , and test ya dog.

in my opinion a fit , experianced rabbit lamping lurcher, on a a very windy night , on very good rabbit ground,,, should be able to put 25 in the bag

35- 40 is a good dog............ if ya dog can do more... then its very good.

but of course some places are esier to catch rabbits than other places, catching down here in the midlands on rolled winter wheat with no hedges is very hard and your ratio's go down

i keep away from the top of hill and just do the bottom half the fields round the side of the woods back round 2 the bungalow and back onto the 690 ,them cracks would ruin a dog hunting life ,wardenlaw is dead has been for the last 5 years the skislope more whicked then wardelaw
