Out yesterday

Recommended Posts

We had a really nice day yesterday with great weather. We met up for breakfast then headed out.

My friend’s new little 7 mo old bitch looks like she'll be a nice little dog for our areas. She's replacing a bitch she just lost at the young age of 6, who sure is missed.

We located a possum on a hillside. It’s the first time I’ve heard something in the ground growling at us before the dog even went in. That was wild. My friend’s 11 mo old bitch crept in out of sight and started to bay. We waited to make sure she’d settle and started to dig. We got down about 2 feet with a foot to go when the pup got tired of this and pulled the possum out by it’s head.

The young pup then had a look,

We moved on where Tyke entered a one hole sette, we heard him mix it up then this groundhog sticks his head out, but where is my dog?

The hog bolted with Tyke coming out a second later chasing it up the hill to another two holer which he couldn’t fit into.

We cleared out the entrance and Tyke soon entered. He had to dig and push on, then we hear him. We marked him at about 3-4 feet and once he settled we started digging. We opened up to him and we found him latched on to the hog’s face. The groundhog apparently had a grip on him too so we couldn’t pull him out for fear doing more damage.

While I held onto the dog, my friend reached in and dispatched. Tyke did a good job, sure is nice watching a young one do so well. :drink:

There's British blood in all of them over here, LOL

I don't look much into pedigrees, what I do know is his parents work, grandparents, etc. ;)

Here's the UK portion of what's behind the dog in the last picture, 4 generations back

Foxwarren, Meynell, Queslett, Beacon, Savermake

Yes, possums bite back, but not as bad as raccoon and groundhogs

No digging terrier should leave a possum unscaved surely  i would be dissapointed to see one dug to and unharmed :D

I've got no problem with that thought process. Remember possums sull up and play dead when provoked. Some give a fight, some don't. So if it's not fighting back and the terrier drags it out, where's the damage going to come from? Then they are easily pulled out without much a fight. The bitch was young and her first time in the ground. Lots of variables involved with possums,

Is this more to your liking?
