I put a post on here a while back about my bitch and her growth because she still had knuckles at the age of 11 months. Here's the thing that I don't get, she's now a year old and is still only 21 tts, which isn't an issue or anything to me. But, she's been 21 tts for the last 6 months!! and has really prominent knuckles, see pic. The knuckles would suggest she's still got a fair bit of growing to do wouldn't it? But if she has, why hasn't she grown in the last 6 months? she's grown in length, and bulked out a fair bit, just not in height.

 

I feed her virtually 100% raw meat and bones, she has bones pretty much every day. I also give her raw eggs a couple of times a week, and a tin of tuna probably about one every fortnight. I put food down twice a day although she doesn't normally eat in the morning.

 

The only reason I'm asking is that I don't want to run her too hard if she's still not finished growing, and I know that people say they can still be growing up to 18 months plus, but I would have thought it'd be a fairly steady growth over that period wouldn't it? Do they sometimes stay the same height for months and then all of a sudden shoot up?

Havent got a clue mate,but my pup has only grown half an inch since 6 months he's now 10 an only 25. Still looks like he's got sime knuckle left tho.

I think if the knuckle is flat and smoothed out down the front of the leg, the growing has stopped Rob. It's when it's rounded and prominent that indicates growth.

 

Could be wrong, like, but I think that's how it works.

yep, and she's bull/grey x wheaten/whippet/grey.

about 23 tts I think, but there's a fair bit of variation in the litter, mine's the smallest at the minute and the next is 22" and I think the biggest is 26"

some times in litters they can trow back to one side ur dog could get his size to the bull or the weaton hopefully u strech another inch or 2

Your dog appears broken or rough coated. Maybe her knuckle just'looks big' because the hair does not lie flat over the joint? I have a rough coated terrier whose legs look really deformed but it is the way her coat looks. Again with such a mix of types in her breeding and variation in the litter who knows? Good luck with her - she will be what she will be!

No, don't get me wrong, if she didn't grow any taller I wouldn't be bothered. I was just under the impression that with such prominent knuckles they still have quite a bit of growing to do. It's nothing to do with her being rough coated, it feels prominent aswell.

I have a dog and a bitch that come from the same litter (as each other not the same as yours) and the bitch is 22" very racy and no longer growing but the boy is nearly 26" much heavier and still growing.

 

Looking at yours I would say there isn't much if any growing left. Dog looks good anyway and a nice size for a little rabbiter.
