ianh 83
all the best dogs I've seen are owned with people who don't work. I work in the oil industry as some folk on here know which means I do some crazy hours which means the dogs suffer. All the guys I've went out with hunting that have had the best dogs have never worked. So I'm asking if in your experience do you think to have a dog at it's peak you really need to be full time dogman? Are all the best dogs you know of owned by unemployed folk? well baw with them such crazy hours and having the time to make 3,306 post on here since mid febuary your dogs must be lacking! 1 Quote Link to post

Cold Ethyl 63
Personally i think its down to the person themselves wether or not they put what time they have and work hard with their dogs or not.I know a few jobless lads who dont even walk the dogs nevermind anything else then whine cos theyre not fit enough or working miracles on the field. On the same hand i know plenty that have a fulltime job and family yet theyre dogs are fit as a fiddle and work hard think its all down to the mindset of the owner. 2 Quote Link to post

What are you saying, your not a good dog man? I work seven days a week, but I live where I work and there is enough gear around here to keep my dogs busy. So where do I fall in the working or nonworking dog men? But I fully understand what you mean, it's all about having the time. No it's about making the time......I work full time never stopped me going out at night.....only downside was I could only get during the day at the weekends.....all my holidays were tailored around the winter months. So no you don't have to be unemployed to have good dogs Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
It's not gonna be consistent either way is it, plenty of folk who work who spend more time with muts than their unemployed counter parts, and there are plenty of folk who couldnt train / keep a dog no matter how much time they had. Having said that, two folk, both with good dogs, both with the right attitude and knowledge etc, stands to reason the unemployed one will end up with a 'better' dog, even if only in the work that it has done, stands to reason don't it? Aye mate. I wasn't trying to generalize, I was asking if the best dog you've seen was owned by someone unemployed cos the best one I have was. Was this down to being unemployed or down to him just having a good dog, who knows but I can't remember him having a bad one. I suppose there is employed folk with top quality dogs as well and I'm talking top quality here, just curious as to what other peoples experiences are Quote Link to post
