All the guys I've went out with hunting that have had the best dogs have never worked. So I'm asking if in your experience do you think to have a dog at it's peak you really need to be full time dogman? Are all the best dogs you know of owned by unemployed folk?

doesnt matter if you graft or not its all down to puting in the hours

Well as far as coursing dogs are concerned pre-ban....the only man to win the Forley cup twice, the only man to breed a Forley cup winner out of a Forley cup winner, and the only man to win both single handed British championships and doubled up British championships on consecutive weeekends was Alan S, and fair play to him for doing so while working as a bricky all week.

Nothing but respect for Alan S.

Unless you work 16hrs aday your dogs should be ok. Not all guys who dont work are good dog men, your forgetting about the thumb print in the middle of their head. Now a guy who doesnt work and doesnt have a bitch at home, he has the recipe to become the owner of very fit dogs, seeing lots of game.. But then you have you over weight lazy fecker, who plays on his palystation all day.

And of course you have the guys who want to hunt or own a lurcher or running dog but live in the built up areas, and struggle to find any descent land...

Ultimate dog man: part time worker(petrol money) lives in the country. A female who also enjoys dogs and the nature around her. Not scared to explore.Knows his animals, their capabilties, and most importantly, knows where and when to hunt. And finally respects his prey, and is on a wave length with his animals that only he can see....

Most dogmen hunt on a 2day basis, and alot cant help it but a lot can..

Out of the house 65 hours of the week but still have time for the dogs and to reply to Baw's stupid questions on THL.

My dogs are almost world beaters apart from one which was sent to try my patience and drive me to insanity. :icon_eek: Which is working...

As they say it's not what you got(time), it's what you do with it.

my opinion for what its worth is a true diehard dogman will always find time to do his dogs properly and the wannabee dog man/woman will always find an excuse that their to busy i will always find time to do the dogs and if that means getting up at 4 am as it did twice recently then so be it.obviously someone that doesnt work is going to have more free time but that doesnt always mean they spend that time with on the dogs its all to do with how much you want it .

I'd agree with that in a sense of someone could be doing 2 hours of great quality time in a dog and someone else with same time doesn't put the same quality in but here's a good point how about those out there that have the time for say 6-8 hours a day out with the dogs and that time is quality from an experienced dogman sure then that bloke Is going to have a better then say the bloke who say only put 2 hours q time in.
