Ideation 8,216
Fecking everywhere right now, warm, wet weather is real bad for it mate. Only possible upside is pup training, for everything else it's heart breaking. Quote Link to post
iworkwhippets 12,539
Got myself some new permission couple of weeks ago, heaving with bunnies, went up yesterday for a mooch, absolutely riddled with mixi dogs picking em up left right and center, yet my local permission, lovely healthy specimens, as yet any roads Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Aye, it's come on quick this year. Couple of permissions all joined on, about 1000 acres, some of my best land, and it's spreading like wild fire. Like you said, was walking it and it was heaving with bunnies, and within a very short time it's like a diseased watership down. Fecking horrible. Winter could be slow starting. Quote Link to post
ramboss 0
it was clean up there last winter,do you think its been introduced or just one of thosethings,or does it go in cycles lying dormant, waiting for the right time to ruin our sport Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Could be either mate, most likely it's just one of those things, warm, wet weather perfect for it, and it's been carried in by a rabbit or other animal with the fleas, folk still do drop it though, usually in the form of an infected rabbit they picked up else where. paulus 26
riddled round my way at the minute, there is loads of fleas and ticks this year so should be expected really Quote Link to post

People say ITS FROM THE FLEAS BUT WHY DOESN IT EVER AFFECT RABBITS IN THE WINTER I NOW FLEAS PROP DIE IN THE WINTER BUT THERE HAS TO BE STILL HAS TO BE SOME FLEAS THAT LIVE WITH THE VIRUS fleas become dormant in cold weather and they dont actually carry the infection themselves its in the blood they take from each rabbit so when they feed from an infected rabbit and then a non infected rabbit it gets passed on Quote Link to post
nasher1 258
My best place was heaving with rabbits until a month ago then mixi reared its ugly head and bang its been wiped out, the thing is this place is isolated from other populations and hasnt been affected for the last 4 or 5 years so somebody must have dropped it in, the thing is other lads drop in with thier dogs now and again as they do, such is life but if you go to a place which has mixi and pick up a few with your dogs and then move on to a place which is clear, you can basically f**k your own sport up, while im aware that rabbit fleas wont live on a dog they dont mind a free ride till they find thier next host atb nasher Quote Link to post

My point was, it aint exactly hard to aquire a live rabbit with mixi is it? I'm pretty sure some folk still sell em to the farmers etc. Quote Link to post

Thing is mate it can come in on any animal or plant matter etc. Quote Link to post
