Lamping Foxes

Recommended Posts

While out lamping this last couple of weeks on my ground i have been having trouble squeaking in foxes ! Is it the time of year or have i just lost my touch ?? :(:(

I use a Wham squealer and the old conventional back of the hand.

I have missed out on about 6 different foxes now and getting a bit pissed off.

Anyone help ?

Its got nothing to do with time of year, more likely your your technique in squeaking and with going over the same ground too often. You have to vary a squeak if you do the same ground week after week, along with different filters .Try holding the attention of a fox with a loud sqeak while you stalk in closer .

at a guess i would say foxdropper is mainly shooting dog foxes.....vixens don't respond well to squeaks for the last few weeks.......a dog will as they often believe another fox is on their territory! not to say a vixen won't but not reliably!!

Its much like a theory of mine on a 50/50 wood/field lowland shoot you won't see many foxes till well after midnight if at all for a few nights before full moon the night of or after they will be back out!! I believe the ones you do see are moving from one wood to anotheri've been keeping a diary of what i see/shoot, the conditions and weather for about 18months and this is one of my first theorys and so far is holding strong!!

Any theorys from anyone?

We also strugle to call them in at this time of year ( we will finish shortly anyway unless we get a call out ) , a couple of week ago over in the north east we saw three fox's no more than 150 yds away , looked like it was two dogs where after a vixen , had the foxpro and tryed various calls but other things were on there minds , after a while one fox stoped and gave enough time to squeze off a shot , down it went (dog fox ) needles to say the other two made off , competition removed
