vets are a total rip off when they find out youve got insurance, they just bump it up ,first question my old vet used to ask " is he insured ?" , money was what they were interested in not animal welfare , insurance is fine but most policies have a limit per condition so things can still be costly , there was a programme on tv a couple of years back where perfectly healthy animals were taken to different surgeries and allsorts was diagnosed very few declared the animal fit, been there seen it done it bought the t-shirt

its unreal i have a pup wouldnt eat or drink look very down took it to my vet and they said it could be three different thing they felt its stomach and said it had a blockage £1000 to fix it so i said theres just no way im spending that money on a 5 week old pup so they said leave it in over night and it may shift it on its own as it was dehydrated we said ok then funny enough the diagnosis had changed to its gut had folded in on its self then after another 12 hours of just a drip no tests they think its gastroentoritus if thats how you spell it and they wanted to keep her in longer at £170 a night so i said no dont think so as i can watch it at home and keep it hydrated free anyway she was in there 48 hours on a drip and they charged £240 ,was the final bill as the second night is cheaper i think thats robbery for hrydrating a 5 week old pup for 46 hours in total and not even finding out whats wrong with it so now its in the same way maybe a bit perkyer but £240 down fuckingcrazy :censored:my bitch the mother is insured to the hilt but yes you guessed it it dont cover her pups

They are excessive prices but to keep your trusty companion alive it's worth it IMO, had lurcher ripped from chest to just between back legs off barbed wire...that was about £350, had the same dog poisoned by 'Stricline'(Spelling?) that the farmer had left out for poachers, dog was fitting and foaming at the mouth, carried him all the way home on my shoulders, got him to the vets just in time. They kept him 3 nights and said he was lucky to make it...that was £390. Had a young terrier in that wouldn't eat and looked swollen, had him in, said he had a blockage, they kept him in and drained away fluid that was blocked and he made a full recovery that was £150. Luckily have pet insurance now on the lurchers £15 a month each but you only pay the first £60 and thats it. Don't have pet insurance on terriers as don't have a vet I would trust with a dog that would be battle scarred so to speak.

My vet wouldnt charge that but then we get a discount and lucky enough my terrier was insured no excess either and no limit full cover no matter what thankfully. My vets bills were huge cos she was under specialists etc and her big op at the beginning of the year was£845 odds then another £779.83 when she picked a fight with the lurchers not too mention all the ones inbetween the heart meds alone at the start were £70 for a months supply i would need to go count them up but my insurance must have cringed everytime i phoned them.Meant to say earlier my lurcher spent not a full night but 8 hours on a drip and it cost £79 at my vets and they sent her home saying she was just stressing and i can watch her as well as they can i try not to leave mine in unless i have too cos they freak if im not there and the bitch especially gets so stressed they need to sedate her.Problem with young pups is it can be a dozen things and depending on the vet as well a very old wise vet would have ruled out anything life threatening quickly and sent you home with rehydrate a young dumb vet will give you anything and everything.

To be honest, I dont think £240 for 2 days is excessive......you spend 7 years in vetrinary school, lay out all the money to set up a practice....what you gonna do?....charge £40 a day?

You may as well set up a bed and breakfast and not have the 7 years of expense and study.

JMHO

Hope your pup pulls through matey
