Conservative MP for Kettering, Philip Hollobone, also wants to withhold state benefits of those migrants who cannot speak English. His call for action came as it emerged Holland is on a collision course with the EU over its moves. Hollobone said taxpayers "simply cannot afford" to keep funding EU migrants seeking work. Going Dutch The MP insisted non-working European migrants were a huge drain on public resources. "I totally agree with what the Dutch are trying to do," he said. Dutch minister Henk Kamp wants to expel eastern European nationals who have been jobless for three months and plans to withhold benefits of those who have not learned Dutch. However the moves are likely to breach EU rules on freedom of work and movement. Hollobone's proposals are likely to fall on deaf ears in the House of Commons as the UK government is not expected to pursue a collision course with the EU at this time and over this issue. Skills factor What Hollobone fails to take into account is that the vast majority of Eastern Europeans who entered the UK in recent years did so to provide much needed skills – notably in the construction sector. There were fewer complaints from British quarters when the country needed foreign labour during the boom years. I think if you go to a country to work you should at least learn the language, and as for claiming benefits, well if you've never paid taxes then stick that idea up your arse.
