Ideation 8,216
Should have got 2 jills and one hob and had him snipped. To save you coming back on in 12 weeks asking why your hobs are fighting, they will probably need separate cages. Agreed it would've been a better idea to get 2 jills and 1 hob but as for two hobs fighting at 5 months and needing seperate cages, not in my experience. Maybe he likes working hobs. And aye i agree with you, i have two hobs here that are caged together all year around, and are fine apart from a bit of bullying in summer. Possibly mate, then 3 hobs might've been a better option. Don't know mate, might have been what was left? I can't talk, i got 4 adult jills, 2 hobs. . . Just bred a litter of 5, wanting to keep back 2 jills. 2 jills and 3 hobs in the litter, and i promised a wee lad we take out a jill, so thats me with 2 hobs one jill. Roll on next summer with 4 fecking hobs knocking about, on top of the 5 jills, And looks like i might need to breed again to get my other jill. . . . Fecking dramas. Happy as with the kits tho, 5 beauties, 2 albinos (one hob, one jill) and three very light sandies (jill/hob/hob). I'm keeping the albinos and 1 sandy, other sandy jill to the lad and one more to home somewhere very good. Quote Link to post

You must have a lot of land to work to be able to feed that lot. Saying that, my collection is going from 2 to 4 this season and I'm not even going to try to think about next season. I might just catch up to you Quote Link to post

Country Joe 1,411
To make it easy, swap a Hob for a jill and have the Hob snipped, that will give you a nice hunting pack, but then it all depends how much ferreting ground you have, to work three Ferts. Quote Link to post

Agreed it would've been a better idea to get 2 jills and 1 hob but as for two hobs fighting at 5 months and needing seperate cages, not in my experience. mine started ragging / wrestling at 5 1/2 to 6 months and ones back was a right mess, i meant separate cages eventually not at that age, and i agree with Ideation, occasionally hobs can be housed together but its rare in my experience. I was just replying to what you wrote mate which read that in 12 weeks time [age 22 weeks] they'll be fighting and will probably need seperate cages. Personally I've never had any bother with hobs fighting at such a young age, different when they're in season. by the time they get to 22 wks old the breeding season is over and kit will not come in to season till ther first summer . god help this site Quote Link to post
