Retrieving

Recommended Posts

Iv'e got my pup coming on well now she comes straight back to hand on a "here" and Iv'e got her jumping small items like a door on it's side and so on.

One problem I got when doing some retrieving work with her is that she will pick the ball up then run around me 2 or 3 times then stand a foot away I walk up to her and she drops it on the floor!

I think the running round is exitment and just her being a puppy, hopefully she will grow out of it. Could anyone give me some advice on how to get her to bring to hand?

Cheers

Hi bud,

You could try getting down on your knees when she has the ball in her mouth. It worked for me.

Try doing the retrieve training in an enclosed area like a hallway,or if

the pup is bigger an alleyway, block off one end, that's the end you stand at

this stops the pup from running behind you.

And get down on your knees like minion says and incourage the pup into you.

I had teh same problem, just stick at it mate ;) Try letting her have half an hour running around before giveing her some retrieves. She should be less hyper by then and should come back quicker. Giver her a really good fuss and a treat aswell, she will soon learn if she thinks there is a treat involved ;)
