selling dogs..........

Recommended Posts

How much dose it cost to rear a litter of working bred pups? Other than stud fees or having to pay vets for any problems during the birth ect how much will it set someone back to have them around for say 6-7 weeks?

no mare than it would cost to buy a pup orr 2 in, cos lets face it that should be only reason you breed.... to keep a couple back...

no offence james but the next time i see you your a fcukin dead man ,why would a lad lie and say a dog is dead .Did you get a kick out of that cause i certainly didnt ye prick

My personal thoughts are that I don't agree with the selling on of adult/nearly adult dogs. The way I look at it is when you part with your hard earned for a pup, you are paying for a blank canvas of

i aint bothered what people breed there litters for its none of my business and dont effect me.   i buy in what i need when i need it. but having said that my last pup was gifted to me.

i cant see anything wrong with selling a dog adult or puppy as long as your 100% truthfull about what your selling example i bred a litter of first cross saluki greyhounds 15 months ago paid 250 pounds stud fee plus over 100 pounds fuel looked after the pups untill 8 to 12 weeks old fed the best of everything plus wormed regulargave 1 to my son and 1 to my son inlaw plus kept my own pup back now why in in my right mind would i give the rest of the litter away for nothing after working 6and 7 days a week to pay the bills .some of you need to get real.plus one that i sold was kept locked up untill 10 months old and not socialised so went and put pressure on the owner bought it back for 3 times what he paid me socialised it and got it somewhere near then gave it away for nothing to a mate who now has it running well socialised and him and the dog are way happy with life .so long winded answer but my opinion is nothing wrong at all in selling a dog the greyhound industry thrives on selling dogs .and not all the bullshit you read about it is true .

just doing the same myself bred a litter of 6 waited a year for the right dog to come along giving three away keeping one the other two are for sale to cover the costs and a new pen roof and lick of paint my dogs work for a living and pay for there own food ,vet bills etc ,breeding shitdogs just to make money is never good for the pups the only benifit is to the breeder the buyer gets a badly bred shitdog that ends up dead or with the rspca

it seems there are a fair few guys on this site that moan about people selling dogs(i am 1 of them guys :icon_redface: )

i aint got nowt against people selling pet dogs, as that will never have anything to do with me..........

but heres my question, how many of yous on here can hand on heart say you have never sold a dog/took money for a stud?????

i know i aint, i have bought dogs in dont get me wrong, an have rehomed dogs that never worked out for me, all free....

so how many disagree wae the selling of working dogs???????

suppose iam saying the longer your into it the more chance you will have more of an eggsseptional dog or bitch and if that comes along theres a good chance you will become a seller

no dig intended to the guys that do sell the odd pup

BUT DOTTY HOW LONG YOU BEEN INTO RUNIN DOGS,

AND HOW MANY HAVE YOU HAD WHAT EXPERIANCED LADS WOULD CALL EGGSSEPTIONAL :toast:

iv been into running dogs me whole life mate, granted i have had a few years off while i was in army an a a few years while i was doing other things :whistling: what about you, how long have you been into dogs?????

an many pups have you sold??? im betting its a few an thats why your deflecting the question

iv had 1 dog that id a called exceptional at 1 stage. but i think i run her too hard an jacked her :icon_redface:

a few guys seen her run when she was at her best an they all rated her highly......

some iv had aint made the grade for me, an have for somebody else, but never any money changing hands, can you say the same???

Interesting thread and one thats always going to bring up strong emotions and feelings. My thoughts on the matter are that it all depends on the reason for breeding......

Scenario A) A litter is bred purely for profit

Scenario B) A litter is bred so the owner can keep one back and gifts the rest of the litter

Scenario C) A litter is bred so the owner can keep one back and the rest of the litter is sold

Personally i see nothing wrong with the latter two options, I have a close circle of mates and when i breed a litter they are welcome to a pup, free of charge, AND i would only breed with the view of keeping a pup myself, HOWEVER the fact is they may already have their kennels full of usefull tykes and not need a youngster so i could have surplus pups, these i would sell, i would hope a price on the pups MAY give it value to the new owner and mean they look after it

well i have been guilty of selling a few pups in the past, and can see where people are coming from. the past few years i have had a few good dogs around me, some brought ans some gifted. not every body is in a posistion to breed a litter and just give them away. and some are just in it for total profit. i have just had a litter, and touch wood they have all gone to working homes. in differant inviremants, and may be will be put in situations that i can get them in without traveling. its about how far the dog can go in the right hands. i think a dog that has been gifted to some body that may not of had the money for a desent pup a would settle for paying £50-£60 for end of sale pup that nobody wanted. just my opinion. happy hunting hope your dogs work aswell as mine.:whistling: all the best x38

I spend a lot of money on my dogs and last year i bred my whippet to keep one back for myself and 1 for a friend then sell the rest . i believe if something is for free then every body will want one have the attitude it didnt cost them owt when they cant be bothered to put the time in and get rid of it . If people had to pay for a GOOD working dog they will get that money back in rabbits and enjoyment over time .

Then 5 weeks ago my best whippet bitch had puppy's she is four and it is her 1st litter like it was my other dogs . yet again to keep one back for myself . The vets bill and cost so far for this litter is £650 so no its not for the money but for the best things in life you have to pay for .

dotty , there'll be lots of answers to this topic ?? but is there a right or wrong answer , every breeder breeds for THEIR reasons nobody elses , i see no difference if the pups are sold or given away for free --- the only opinion i'd say is , if theyre free , the breeder is more likely to let any tom dick or asshole have one , where as if theyre for sale , it's only good honest people wanting them , yes i know you could get assholes wanting to buy too , but the free option i think theres more likely they'd be let go------just my opinion thoug ----den

appose to not payng for a GOOD working dog .....i think when a pup has been gifted to somebody that a lot of people know, will put the work in to the dog. but thats just me, like i said not every body is in a posistion to gift a dogs away, vet bills ect but if you can find the right lads that are prepared to give them every chance then why not i had mine gifted and saw the end product before i had him so why wouldnt you put the effort in, if thats what you get at the end. and its not me having a go. all the best x38 ;)

i have never sold a dog in my life but i have know problems with anyone else doing it as long as they...

1. know the person and know what there like

and

2. check the new owners home to make sure its suitable.

at the end of the day if you just sell an dog to anyone with out makeing sure its safe your no better than a 18th century slave trader!!
