fireman 10,859
A bit of land doesn't have to be a shoot for you to be able to use terriers to control foxes on and the law doesn't say how big or small that bit of land has to be and niether does it state they have to be reared birds. All it says is for the protection of game birds and it doesn't even state the land has to have a dwelling population of game birds just for the protection of,read it how you will but i see it as everywhere where i have permission i have a duty to protect the wild birds that do or could live there .This topic just shows how fecked up the law is as letting a fox go after being dug to is against the law and we should kill them all but thats how them anti's wanted it,but i as well as others do hold a passion for all thing countryside and if the keeper ain't looking or even the farmer is happy for me to do so then 99% of vixens run again(if 100% fit to do so)and it's a fecked up mind who does want to kill kill kill all the time. 2 Quote Link to post
goldfinch2007 2,331
i think a bit of commen sense is needed if its on keepered land,do your job.if not and its not a pest leave it for another day Quote Link to post
nogadog 15
I can't see the point in letting them go! The day I wanna let em go is the day I give up diggin! If thats your attitude to diging well then you should think about giving it up.There are times reasons when they have to be culled, but if you kill all you dig including pregnant vixon's at the end of the day your only killing your own sport. The lads with the rifle's and snares also poisin, not to mention the gun packs take care of enough foxs without us lads killing everything we dig. well said mate Quote Link to post
terriermaniac 12
What's wrong with stopping digging for a while in a area that foxes are gone scarce , Id rather do half the digging and kill what I dig , your forgetting why were still allowed to dig! Were allowed to dig to control numbers , not to have abit a crack with the quarry and then let it off when your finished, so you can have abit of crack with the same fox the next day! But your welcome to your opinions ! As I am mine! 1 Quote Link to post
scent 509
if everyone had the idea of that the reason we go digging i to kill game then there would be no game left to work our dogs.Personally i dig to see dogs working and get the reward of seeing game run after the dogs work is done Quote Link to post
fat man 4,741
Same as that scent, love to see a good terrier at its job,and then show upmost respect to its quarry, especially if its an educated one.Granted there are times when quarry have to be destroyed, farmers request or whatever, but me or the lads i dig with have no problem letting them run,and we get a lot more diging because of it. But your welcome to your opinions ! As I am mine! i ve read your post s terriermaniac and they make no sense too me at all is your reason for digging terriers just too get too kill something the reason i dig too terriers is too watch and listen too my dogs working too ground doing what they were bred too do and everytime i go out i expect them too do what they are bred for.now if everyone thought like you there would be nothing of note worth hunting left anywere i also do a bit of shooting and at start of season when birds are plenty full there days you could flush 20 birds but still an all i would nt shoot any as there young bit green and not really very sporting but i do enjoy watching my young spaniel hunting and flushing them .any honest digging men i know are not in it for too kill all before them its the working of the dogs the breeding of the dogs and the feeling owning an honest working dog if i had that attitude of your s mate id take up farming as you get too kill nearly everything you ve reared and you ll get paid for it 1 Quote Link to post
Bryan 1,362
, Id rather do half the digging and kill what I dig , your forgetting why were still allowed to dig! Were allowed to dig to control numbers , In Ireland hunting with dogs in Ireland is legal and recognised as a sport. You seem to be confused about English law and what's legal in the rest of the world. Half the digging once you can kill everything? are you serious? Quote Link to post

terriermaniac 12
To dee mac , your missing the point , i like to see my dogs working as much as the next man ! But remember diggings not a sport it's pest control ! Full stop! I've been going on digs since I was ten , that's 18 years ago ! And digging myself for the last 10 year! We've never let our quarry go and there's still plenty of digging every winter! To bryan, you don't have to mention the law in uk or Ireland I know the law , And to old timer Your entitled to your opinions , but I'd stick to useful posts not making stupid accusations bout another member! 3 Quote Link to post
