Col_c88 41
yep, as 2bob said.. best way is to tag along with someone theres alot of people who are willing to take a person along as long as they muk in like... nout worse than someone asking to go along and then stood back.. *shudders* texting! or whatever Quote Link to post
Kile 21
i think you will have a long wait if you dont have a locater, if the ferrit stays down the set then try stamping on the ground on the set, the ferrit will come out ....alb kile Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Alright matey, as said locators are real handy! However if you don't have one there are a few tips that will help you, firstly make sure your ferret is well fed before you work her, so if she kills she is more likely to just walk away rather than eat. Also, start early so if you have to wait for a couple of hours you shouldn't lose the light. Make yourself a probe, so if you do get a kill you can find the tube if you need to dig (and you have an idea where she is). Try when feeding your ferret, doing a certain call or whistle, and she may start to come to that, and sometimes you can call them out. Failing that, get a stick and bang it about the hole (stick it down and wack it up and down) and the vibrations / noise will often lure them out. Also, being quiet netting up etc will reduce the chance of a rabbit sticking, rather than bolting. Can't think of anything else off my head. I know your old man never lost a ferret in 20 years, but it's not just about that, on certain land, you will get a lot of bunnies in stop ends, and digging a foot or so can add 2/3/4 rabbits to the bag. I also hate leaving a dead bunny down there. As for how many holes to one ferret, it all depends mate, i wouldnt over match a young ferret, but a good working adult will handle 10/15 holers ok, but then again, some 5 holers have more depth and tunnels than other sets with 10 holes. . . . .. Having said that, ferrets are very social and keeping one a lone is to me a bit cruel. Atb mate, Jai. Quote Link to post

Col_c88 41
Having said that, ferrets are very social and keeping one a lone is to me a bit cruel. i agree but unfortunatly my 2 hobs rag each other about when there in the same hutch i have to keep them apart.. there fine as long as there not in the same hutch.. like out in the field etc. =( Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Have they always been like this mate? Chances are, when their balls go back up, they will chill out a bit. I have two brother hobs here, and i have them together, i feel bad because the dominant hob pushes the other one about, and he has a somewhat raw back of head and neck. However as they have been together their whole life, they get a bit funny when separated, so it's a no win situation You do however just get some ferrets that are miserable, anti social b*****ds Quote Link to post
Col_c88 41
yea a couple days after i got them i had to split them up ones got a chunk of ear missing due to it. they dont seem bored or miserable.. they do get a bit excited when i go into the shed though .. im making an 6ft x 4ft x 3ft outside playing area hopefully they will be ok together in there.. shame really Quote Link to post
