Ideation 8,216
Ready for action! Was having a walk down a lane and dog decided there was a rabbit in the holly hedge, did someone not say that whippets won't enter thick cover? And the kits having a cuddle. . . . Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Cheers guys, pics ain't the best as they were on the phone, which is a bit battered Aye Jayjay, keen is an understatement mate, prey drive and hunting desire through the roof, not always a good thing, lost him for 2 hours after a fox the other night! Digger - he's giving his wee sis a cuddle mate Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
Thats a very tidy whippet, looks well. Though it won't get far after that bunny with its lead on. Cracking shot of the kits too. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Aye mate, i'm trying to restrict his running a bit as he has just come off the back of a bad smash where he sheared the inside of his back leg off on some sheet metal, hence he's on a lead in the field, and the lane he's marking the rabbit on leads to a bigger road But aye, you are not wrong, can't wait till the weather is cooler and his leg is all healed up P.S - He actually ran down his first rabbit while on the lead, with a shovel tied to the end Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
I have an almost identical pic of my kits. She I cany post pics with this fekin phone! Nice dog mate, I was looking at getting a whippet next year. Are they good rabbiting dogs? I'm new to the dog scene, what's the difference between a lurcher and a whippet? Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Speaking for my whippet, rather than all whippets, just to avoid argument. I would say he is a decent rabbiting dog, especially when it comes to ferreting and general mooching / bushing. A lurcher is a cross bred running dog, a whippet is a pure bred sight hound. A lurcher is probably more likely to take to more things, i find a whippet perfect for what i do. Up sides of Finn - Great nose, took to marking all of a sudden at a young age, will find any game, anywhere. High prey drive, loves to hunt, will pursue quarry with 100% dedication, follows scent like a beagle. Very fast reactions, acceleration and take off speed. Intelligent, good round sets, nets, ferrets, guns and people. Quick learner. Great in the house, very loyal, good guard dog, sleeps on the bed, quiet, nice nature. Good with other dogs. Hunts independently, ranges where he needs to. Down sides - High prey drive, does not give up, so recall can be a bit hard to say the least. Breaks easily, fairly thin skin and all bone and muscle, he's had two ops by 16 month. High prey drive, was hard to break to stock initially. Hunts independently, thinks nowt of running something for a long long way. Or just following scent over hill and dale. The downsides are quite possible down to my training Quote Link to post
