Bassy 1
Hi all already put a thread on here about maybe getting a lurcher, doing a bit or research at the mo. Does anybody keep and work minature jack russel terriers? Seen a few around, thinking about getting one with the lurcher I get. Now for the sexes, what would work? 2 female, male, female? Really wanting females, they seem so much friendlier. Will be be doing some mooching and a bit of rabbiting. For all the guys that own more than 1 dog would be interested to see what works, thank you for replys in advance! Quote Link to post
Guest born to run1083
I would start with the one pup mate so you can put all your time into it, two pups can be a big challenge to the most experienced of dog man. Then the pup will become the best you can make it then rather then splitting your time. Just IMO mate Quote Link to post

Terrier can be right little shits, a dog lurcher will be less likely to retaliate towards a bitch terrier being arsey. Whereas a bitch lurcher can quite easily kill a bitch terrier (and the same with dogs) 2 Quote Link to post

NEWKID 27,211
Hi mate I've got a 2 yr old jrt and a 1 yr old 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy. They both live in the house and are pretty much inseperable, although as moll said my jrt can be a bit arsey at times lol. the jrt is good with the ferrets and bushing and she's a great little ratter she's keen as hell and wont stop all day long, th lurcher is still young so time will tell but she's shown good signs late last season, she's done a bit of ferreting caught a couple of runners and started to mark, most walks include a bit of mooching/bushing and she's had a few on the lamp. Can't wait for next season. Good luck in what you choose mate ( and you'd be right to get 1 pup at a time imo) Cheers Kev Bella martha Quote Link to post

littlefish 586
whats a minature jack russell I met a woman with one at the weekend. I asked her what age her pup was but she said it was 2 years old and was a 'miniture'. I have small dog (10 inches at he shoulder) her's looked really tiny and dainty standing beside him. I imagine it would have weighed about 5-6 lb. Quote Link to post

They cross JRTs with chihuahuas to get the size down... they're small alright but they also have a domed skull (the real giveaway), a short muzzle and weak jaws/dentition. And often the very bowed legs too. I've not seen one work but can't imagine chihuahua would add too much to the mix really... I'd stick to a standard size JRT, whatever that is in your part of the world. Some like them leggy and some don't. Also I have to say some female terriers can be feistier than the males! MOO had one off him last year, and he is made up with his. Quote Link to post
