Leeview 791
Can't believe none of you are mentioning drop boxes. Anything that can bag you 30 or more rabbits a night as you sleep has got to trump anything.(In prime conditions). FTB We do one particular old quarry plenty of BIG rocks just off of the moor with 3 drop boxes which we open when we ferret this place no nets just bolting for the dogs and the drop boxes work very well Y.I.S Leeview
Paid 935
Lamping with the rimfire, produces the numbers (Nothing beats it) , but not the sport.! Hard to beat this method for numbers.
Lab 10,979
In the early 50's my grandad snared and ferreted rabbits on ground that that he rented out. He was making a normal mans weekly wage in 2 days. He knew what he was doing and it was dirt cheap doing it........
IanB 0
You mention one person on their own day or night John. My options for the biggest returns are lamping using a .22 rimfire out of the vehicle or a quad, but that also depends on the land, and how much disturbance the rabbits have had, second method snaring and trapping... I agree ferreting is also a good method to clear warrens, but to do anything in numbers, its more than a one man job.
chimp 299
only time i need a second man is to help carry all the rabbits back lol
The one 8,481
As said it all depends on the ground and the time of year to what options are open for you , I always liked to start ferreting and hopefully cleaning out the burrows will add a few rabbits at the same time a few snares and lamping at night hoping they wont go back to ground due to the smell of the ferret . But on good ground ive had roughly the same amount from ferreting as lamping at night

killa-combo 142
for one man its between drop boxs ferrets a silenced gun or a good lurcher/lamp all depending on the ground imo

mattydski 560
Dont think you could beat a driving about with a silenced 22. for the number game IMHO, But... Id much rather go ferreting and useing the dogs for the sport factor... plus

You have to take into account the terrain and rabbit numbers in the area.. You start taking a dog out lamping rabbits and selectively choosing runs OR lamp multiple rabbits together and send a dog down the beam, they sharp get lamp shy, then thats a different ball game... TOMO 26,217
rimmfire allthough there have been some great bags with the wires, but far less work involved with the 4x4 and rimmy Edited June 27, 2011 by TOMO
