early rut????

just come back from stalking on the west coast of scot seen a roe buck chasing a doe around for over an hr (before i shot him) just wondered if anyone else has seen rutting as early as this??

I have seen standard deer activity for this time of year but no signs of any Does in season at all and i dont expect any for a long time yet

I have seen bucks chase does in march and every month. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THE RUT.

earliest I have in 25 years seen it is 17th july.

John may i ask what year was the early rut the 17 we had does in season on the 18th 19th in 2009 thats the earliest i have ever had rutting in 30 years as a roe deer stalker.

THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING AT IF YOU WANT TO CALL IT RUTING

It was the before last........2009.

Small world eh??

We were carring creates to a pheasant pen and disturbed them they had made x2 rings at the gate way of the pen.

Dont look like a roe ring to me more like a well worn bager path lmfao .

 

Hoolit she is 17 weeks or so and has a very even temprament walks to heel and has been at 5 roe so far she will i am sure make a good finding dog .But i must admit to not doing to much line work on cold trails .But i will do and i am sure she will do that with out problem,

2009 i CALLED the first buck of the Wiltshire rut that year on the 10th of july,not a regular occurance admitted but worth noting .Last years rut was very patchy visually at least with the majority at it at night i believe.This year will hopefully bring about a decent rut that will see a few grassed to the call.

As i said before 2009 was an early rut for us and we had not a bad one last year clear signs from 2nd of august way up to the 12 -14 and i was out most mornings. Lets see what this one brings i have a real craker of a buck just off my ground on council ground i wouldnt mind bringing him to the call.
